Need some help.....
2006 LX - 72,000 miles

Yesterday, I started the truck and heard a higher pitched whining sound. I got out to listen, but could not discern what/where the problem was. I drove to work w/o incident. After work, I started the truck and heard the same sound and the CEL and the VSC Off light illuminated. The truck then went into limp mode and I made it to the dealer, barely. I had to take it t the dealer because I had to go out of town on business this AM.

The dealer called me at 5PM and told me there were about 10 codes that were thrown. Oil pressure, fuel injector were the ones I can recall. He will further diagnose tomorrow.

Being out of town for the week leaves me a little vulnerable. I read as much as I could in the search section, but cannot pinpoint the issue by search alone (at this time).

Any advice?

Much appreciated.

Can't give you any advice on the code, but don't worry too much about VSC light. It was most likely triggered by the CEL.

Just a guess based on the "higher pitched whining sound" and you have a 2006, you might be seeing problems with the Air Injection Pump (emissions system)...

I've heard the "vsc" light always comes on with the CEL?

You may be right. The dealer called and told me that they suspect it is the air injection. Again, they called me at closing time leaving little time to discuss. They will continue troubleshooting tomorrow.

I will search the forum for more about the air injection.

Thanks for the feedback.

There's some good info on the system here:

http://www.tundraheadquarters.com/blog/2010/04/26/tundra-sequoia-air-injection-induction-pump/

According to my local dealership, LCs don't have the same failure issues as Tundras. But either way, it is a costly repair - just to blow some air into the cats..

They are now telling me it is a switching valve. 2 on intake side and 2 on exhaust. They dont know which. I am literally on the road and have no idea. $250 per valve for parts.

Just got the truck back. Two switching Valves, part number 25720-50011 and 50020. $246.35 each plus labor ($530).

They also left a nice ding on the top left fender and coolant splashed in the engine bay. I suspect they broke a plastic t connector for coolant while repairing and they discovered after a test drive. I am not happy.

The sound is back. I contacted Paul at the tundrasolutions site. Paul created an override mod for this issue. Has anyone else done this? I'll be doing this as soon as I get the kit.

Old thread, but did you get an answer? I've got some issue sounds similar.

Verdict is in. Finally was able to get a friends snap-on diagnostic tool. Code 1441 air injection pump valve 2 bank 1 stuck open. I did not experience the wine noise, but cel and Vsc off light were came on and I got limp mode. Not sure why it is limp mode it is dangerous how much it has no power. Anyway cleared code and all is running fine now. Will update if it returns. Gonna see if Lexus warrants this as part of the emissions, but will go ahead and get the mod kit.
Thanks to the best forum ever!

From my understanding, it will return. It may get to the point where the bypass kit does not solve the problem and you end up with a more expensive fix. To be sure, go over to the tundra thread and read as much as you can. I think there is now a plug in option where no wire splicing is necessary.

Goog luck.

Thanks teehee. I've been reading up on the no splice kit. Haven't found anyone say it has long term effects. I am still trying to find out how "leaves and water" would get in there to cause an issue... Also trying to determine if some carb clean or maf cleaner would help remove crud. As it gets warmer I'm going to investigate removal and "servicing" it. Just got the 470 about a month ago. Haven't picked up fsm yet, need to search the forum for someone selling one.
