Coastal Cruiser Monthly Meeting June 8, 2006
Eleven members met at the Pantry Restaurant at 6:00 pm including Rob Millson. This seems to be the restaurant of choice by the club at this time. Food Is OK.
The meeting got started in earnest at 8:20. Members present were: Marcin C., Phil S., Rob Millson, Rod McD., Jan H., Bill W., Garry C., Mike N., Clarence G., Mike McT., Thomas M., Jim C., Chris H., Barry P., Martin S., Malcolm M., Gary T., Steve T., Steve S., Paul K., Drew E., and welcome to Mat R.(New Member).
Guests included Traci & Rojo, Paul S., and Al S.
Item 1: ROB MILLSON thanked everyone for their encouragement, assistance and money to help him recover from his accident. He’s glad to be alive. He showed a photocopy of his femur fracture: it was a clean break. He credits his quick recovery to the great support he has received. He announced that his shop will be closed forever on July 24, so we will be able to have the July meeting here. We do not as yet have a new meeting place. Many of the items in Rob’s shop are for sale. He will hold a barbeque at the next meeting which might possibly be on a Friday night. Watch “Mud” for updates.
Item 2: CRUISER DAYS August 26. Rob Millson has agreed to carry on as the Master of Ceremonies after all. We have no food vendor, so people will have to eat at McDonald's across the street. Steve T. and Clarence G. think that things are on track for the Cruiser Days. Unfortunately Allstone was not present at the meeting and will not be able to participate in Cruiser Days . Some sponsorship efforts are being made: Garry C is trying to get Sport Truck and North Shore 4x4, and Rob Millson is trying to get Tireland, Western Warehouse, and Richmond Open Road Toyota, and Steve T. is asking Open Road Toyota Port Moody. We have a Cruiser Days Raffle prize now of the Waterloo tool chest combo. We hope to get an electric winch from Costco if it is still available. We expect to spend about $1000. on raffle prizes and we have other expenses also such as insurance, site rental, T-shirts (red image), audio & generator, etc. We have about $3000. in the treasury, but half of that goes for the Christmas Dinner.
Item 3: JULY 1 LONG WEEKEND. Members decided that the run will be to the Chataway Lakes area, north of Merritt. Some members may go up there early on Friday, June 30, while others will go Saturday, July 1. One possible rendezvous point will be Steve T’s place. Details will be posted on “Mud.” Members hoping to attend will be: Gary T., Bill W., Marcin C., Phil S., Jan H., Mike N., Mike McT., Chris H., Mat Z., Drew E., Steve T., Martin S., and hopefully a few others. Guests Traci D. & Rojo. Mike McT. knows the area and will give directions. Drew will post maps on “Mud.” Our activites will not be hampered by the Merritt Music Festival because that function will not start until July 13.
Item 4: AUGUST LONG WEEKEND. Whipsaw. Details to be arranged. Camp at Mud Lake.
Item 5: CLUB DUES AND TLCA DUES. Many Coastal Cruiser members have not paid their 2006 TLCA dues. In fact, only 22 out of our 46 members are up to date with TLCA. Our Coastal Cruisers Chapter is NOT a member in good standing with TLCA at this time.
If we do not correct this problem, we could conceivably lose our TLCA Chapter status.
The only 22 paid up TLCA members NOW are: Jonathan C., Greg B., Norm F., Chris H., Allstone H., Wayne I., Rob Millson, Marcin C.,Mike N., Gordon P., Barry P., Phil S., Jeff S., Martin S., Steve S., Malcolm M., Steve T., Bruce D., Petra N., Drew E., Charla D. and Bill W. All other CC members have NOT paid TLCA dues and are in default. It should be noted that membership in the TLCA is expected of all Coastal Cruiser members. If you do not know how to pay your TLCA membership, email or phone Bill Wilkinson and he will give you details.
Also, 5 members have not paid their Coastal Cruiser 2006 dues yet, and 2 of them have now been removed from our membership list because they do not come to meetings and do not respond to phone calls or emails.
Item 6: ANNOUNCEMENTS: Clarence G., is moving to Barbados in September.
BC 4x4 is having a run to Apex. (see BC4x4 website)
Item 7: CLUB RAFFLE: Martin S. scored the best prize, the rolling service cart. Barry P took the 10” orbital wax buffer. Mat won the rolling tool tray. Garry C. walked with the pulleys donated by Marcin. Phil S. won the razor knife set. Guest Al S. got the 10 lb rag bag. Next month’s prizes will be bought by Martin S.
The meeting broke up around 10:15 and the Cruisers rumbled out into the early summer twilight while nearby, on the great river, shadowy figures of tugs and river boats droned upstream toward their destiny with log booms and fish plants.
