CB newb needs opinions

I just bought a Uniden 520 to be installed in the ash tray location.

Now, I have never owned or operated a cb before and am a bit confused on tuning, squelch, rf gain bla bla bla. Is there a good resource for the basic im unclear on?

Also, im leaning towards the 2' Firestik.

Thoughts?

Get as long as an antenna as you can, it helps.

At a minimum, when you have the radio in place and the antenna mounted, TUNE the antenna with a SWR meter. If you don't have one, someone in your area may or you can get cheap ones off Amazon. The rest you can play with. CB's aren't very technical. Lots of info in this section that will teach you a lot about antenna mounting, etc. Good luck and have fun!

462 mhz GMRS/FRS has better range , with less power . Antenna is a vertical , 5/8 wave w/ a screen behind it . KC7CC Tucson AZ .

Above about 250 mhz , radios have much higher gain with smaller
antennas .
