Still waiting for delivery only about 566 more hours :bounce: . Just before the May long weekend. With hopes of taking it out on a good trail run.

My largest dilemma is where to mount the CB and Antenna. On my previous vehicles I have mounted them under the dash on the driver’s side but don't think there will be enough clearance for my leg and the radio. I was thinking of mounting it in the storage bin between the front seats?

As for the antenna I thinking of mounting it on the spare tire mount. I don't think that the standard hood mount brackets would work and I would run into clearance problems if I installed it on the roof rack.

Just curious as to how and where others are mounting them... again I'm looking at having 2-3 evenings to get this done so would like to have an idea of what others have done.

Thanks,

Drew

Drew,

When you do get your new FJC, see about tagging along with the Coastal Cruisers. May long weekend we typically do the Whipsaw, but I cant remember if we had decided to do it this year. Regardless, it would be fun to have one of these new machines on a run with us. Pop into our club forum here on mud and say hi.

Have you thought about using the Cobra 75 WX ST All-in-handset Mobile CB?

I've been using the older model of this (I'm getting a new on for the FJC) with good results. It doesn't have to be mounted, I just throw it between the seats when I'm not using it, or tuck it under the seat if I don't want anyone deciding they need mine.

Just went down to the dealer again with my radio in hand and could not get it to fit anyware... Came home and ordered a Cobra 75 WX ST. One problem solved...

Now where to mount the antenna.... I don't think there will be clearance between the rear window and the spare once I put on the 33s...

Thanks for your input.

I posted this same question here a few weeks back.
I hope to be able to mount my huge radio below the glovebox in the FJ when I get it like I have mounted in my 4Runner.

You ask where to mount the antenna.
Presently mine is on my ARB, and when I put an ARB on the FJ, it will be there as well.

But before I got the ARB, I had it on the front left fender.
That is a very good location and easy to install.

Whoa, just saw your post again linked from another thread.
Would you be interested in making these and selling them?

I think I am going to go with the All Pro bumper in the future, or the ARB, but I need to find a location for awhile to put my antenna.
Mine is currently mounted on a heavy duty spring along with a quick disconect.

Looks like it would work with your bracket.

My FJ should be here the middle of June they told me Monday.

Like you I'm waiting for my ARB Bumper to show up mid June... and didn't fell like defacing the stock bumper in hopes that someone will be in need of one... I'll let you know how it works on the trail... After I finish painting and putting down hardwood in my living room... dumb idea keep busy and the time would fly buy.

Where did you mount the remote unit?

I mounted it under the dash on top just above the vent system and ran the connector down throw an exsiting hole near the center console and drilled one small hole to secure the plug. been working great and realy easy to connect and disconnet when not in use.

If I remember correctly some suppliers of TLC parts used to make a tray which mounted up overhead. I wonder if they could do something like that for the new Cruiser.......

I kind of like the regular old Cobra CB radios with all the knobs and stuff. I always did like guages and lights and stuff like that. A gadgety kind of person. Might sound dumb, but that's me.... give me dials and lights! :bounce:

Two Way Radio

Drew,

The owners manal has a warning about two way radios interfering with the onboard electronics and computers. It says to talk to their service people. They seem to be admitting to an EMI problem caused by high wattage output radios. Hopefully someone in one of these forms will be able to shed a little light on the issue. It may simply require mounting the antenna on the aft end of the vehicle.

Here is a link to the best (IMO) CB antenna mount for the FJ. And directions for mounting the Cobra 75.

I just bought a Midland 75-822 handheld CB http://cgi.ebay.com/Midland-75-822-...ryZ40056QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (got mine from walmart $89),Wilson 3' antenna, and the Bandi antenna mount from All-pro.

My FJ sits outside so just waiting for the snow to stop and for it to warm up before install.
