Definately someone I need to chat with, I haven't even transmitted on mine since I got my license.

That antena unfortunately will not work well for CB the wave length is very diferent. The "ultimate" would be a 20" stainless steel whip. Cheap, and either half of one full wave length.

Although is that your PRC 19?
No, I just have the 15-20 foot whip that you see in the picture.
Mine is here:
75-822.jpg

CB is 26.965 Mhz to 27.405 MHz Mhz often called ll meters which is 36 ft
1/4 wave would be 9ft or 108 inches
but the antenna mfgs have determined the optimal length for the 1/4 wave whip antenna to be approx 102 inches, works in the middle of the band.
if you are going to be using one channel only, tune the swr to that channel
or tune to a middle channel

Thanks Dick, I'll have to read up on that.

I plan on mounting it on the front passenger fender and tieing it off on the rear bumper with probably 6 feet of rope.

Sweet set up! Hey if you want a fire stick I'm looking for a 20" stainless whip...

That's what I'm talkin' about.

I have a SW meter as well if anyone wants a hand. I had a client project that required me to get up to speed on CB stuff. So naturally it was an excuse to go out get buy a CB and play with the setup on my LC. After much reading and testing, I managed to mount it to my mega warrior. Basically took a 90deg standard antenna mount, drilled a little larger holes in and use 2 yakima standard clips. I was a little shocked it works as well as it does (SW readings around 1.5) and techincally not being a grounding plane of any sort. I get good signal, no interferance. The Yak clips allow me to move it around and easily take on and off. With round yak clips if I were to run into something they would just rotate and bend the antenna backwards, giving me a a nice looking setup without quick disconnects or spring loaded attachments. Im running a firestick2 4' and Cobra 29.

retrofive are you local? And if so when you joining up? :D
