I searched a bit but didnt find any answers to my question :hillbilly:

Im looking for CB antenna and mounting suggestions for my F350.My issue is that I haul a huge cab over camper from time to time.So I cant put an antenna on the roof or bed of the truck. And the camper doesnt stay on the truck all the time so I cant mount the antenna to it.

So what I need to know is what type and where to stick it on the truck :D ?Any ideas?

This is it.

Nice truck!

Looks like you've already got the antenna mounted up on the camper in the pic - but I understand not wanting to change it constantly when the camper comes off (which is what I would do, but I'm weird).

I'd just use a hood-groove bracket ($12 or so from HRO, AES, etc...) and call it a day. I know there is a vehicle specific bracket for the Ford superduty trucks, and that might be easier to mount and look even better (you'll likely find it with a search of gigaparts.com or Hamradio.com, or even walcottcb.com).

Either way, the antenna will mount to the bracket somewhere along the front hood edge of the truck. Send and receive will suffer some as your pattern will be greatly (completely?) hindered from the rear due to the large camper, but it will still get the job done - just don't be surprised when signals from the rear are weak.

Good luck.

Ps, those A-pillar gauges look nice too!

As far as 1 permanent location that will always work well, you won't find it. The roof is the best location when not impeded by another object........oh say a cab over camper. :D

The ideal setup for what you have would be to run 2 coax cables. 1 to a roof top mount on the cab for when the camper is off, and the other to a mount on the camper. You would have to switch the coax back and forth @ the radio and wad up the coax for the camper when not in use.. Not the easiest but not that difficult.

Most roof top mounts have a plug to cap the mount when the antenna is removed so you don't have to worry about water or debris getting in. (I have a Wilson 1000 that has this setup and it's nice for parking garages or ecven the garage @ home)

Thanks :D

That antenna on the roof is for the stereo in the camper ;p

I think I will fab up a stainless bracket to mount it by the edge of the hood somewhere. And I found a cool Fire Stick low profile connector to use on the antenna end of the coax cable. And I know all about the dead spot caused by the camper.I have my satalite radio antenna out on my hood and I have signal issues at times :D

*snip* Either way, the antenna will mount to the bracket somewhere along the front hood edge of the truck. *snip*

In this pic you can see my universal hood mount. It actually attaches to the fender... Use a 4' ant and you should have good CB coverage. I agree that you will have worse range behind you with the camper on, but range of CB sucks anyway!
