My girlfriend started her 4runner this morning and quickly realized the cats were gone. Someone conveniently hacked the cats off of the 4runner next to hers as well. Apparently the rusty one on the 60 just wasn't worth it. They were kind enough to cut the pipe on one side and start the other side and leave it like that. I'm not so sure its even worth the insurance claim since the cat is still there.....

So if anyone has a spare or good set of cats for a 95 4runner they are trying to sell, let me know....

That sucks. Unfortunately converter theft is becoming quite popular in our area. They go after trucks and SUVs because they sit higher off the ground making their work easier. I would report it to the police but probably not the insurance company since they may decide to raise her rates.

$1400 from the dealer! We filed a police report and she's making a claim. Its considered vandalism and does not raise rates so might as well. Someone should build a bolt on/weld on cat protector. Maybe not quite as pricey as this though American Welding, Inc.

It sort of pisses me off that they didn't take mine though. Instead they just messed my exhaust up. a$$holes.

That sucks man...if the cat is still there, can you just drop the exhaust down and have it welded?

that sucks...I would just put a high flow cat back on there.

I have heard (but not confirmed) that Toyota cat's are highly sought after because of the amount of platinum in them. I don't know if it is true or not, but I know that if I found someone taking mine, there would be lots of lead in there as well....

A guy had his stolen while his truck was parked on the street during work hours a couple weeks ago. sucks....

I've been told the same thing. Josh has told me that they get more for a Toyota cat when the scrap guy comes to the dealership than any others. It's a shame that people have to resort to doing crap like this.

That system is ridiculous. A cut off wheel will cut right through a steel cable...

I think all you need is to put additional tubing on either side of the cat... a kind of half tubing... and weld it on both sides. it should deter them enough to go to the next guy...

Sorry to hear about your cat's. Mine was stolen as well, and like you I filed a police report and put in an insurance claim. Wound up being almost 3K in repairs from the dealer. I have decided to go with sliders from metaltech because of the built-in cat skid plate. Does not make it impossible to steal the cat, but a lot tighter to work in there. I'm hoping they'll take one look and pass for an easier cat to steal.

Apparently, someone broke into Wagonworks (the body shop just next to Taylor Toyota that works on all the BMWs, Audis, and Mercedes) and stole the cats off of all the cars in the lot waiting for repairs.

What the hell is going on recently? Did a few thousand meth-heads just move into Northern VA in the last month?

Whatis crazy is that they're bought from these guys no questions asked.

I just found the exact Tundra that I was looking for, the only one like it that is left in the area...got a call back from the dealer and the cats had been stolen off it and it had been damaged in the process...BRAND NEW ON THE LOT!:bang:

People suck.

Yeah, I've heard of incidents where an entire lot of uhaul trucks or 50 or so trucks at a dealership will get hit in a night!

I wonder how selling them for scrap works.... "Hi, I have 50 brand new cats, how much will you give me for them....?" Seems like that should be a pretty obvious red flag.

You still getting the tundra?

No, they said it won't be fixed for a while and they don't have any more long beds in the area.

If I am going to get a short bed, I'll just get a Tacoma and get 25 MPG.

Good luck on the 25 mpg. Were you looking at the 4cyl? I'm averaging 18mpg with the 4.0 V6 6spd. My best was on a trip it got 21

Tom,

Yea, two wheel drive, four cylinder, base truck.

25 MPG on the window sticker at least, might not actually get that much but I hear that they recently made the ratings more strict and realistic so it probably does get 25 on the highway and about 20 around town.

The V6 gets 20 max.
