I have been working on my 1977 fj40 with a caster issue It has a 2.5 spring lift, and a 5 inch [center to center bolt] shackle lift running bf Goodrich mud terrain km2 33/10.5xr15 tires The font end is tight center arm is good I have tried 2.5- and 4-degree shims I still can't get the steering wheel to center after a turn, any help would be appreciated, it is a handful to drive I just put in the 2.5 and the 4 degree shim together and it is about the same, what am I missing?

I would take to an alignment shop…see what you actually have and shim or shorten shackles from there….
The original spec is 1 degree positive (pretty close to straight up).

For every 2” of lift, you’ll need approximately 2 degrees of shim. My 68 is running 2 degrees positive with 2.5” springs, 2 degree shims and a Saginaw box. Sharp turns will not recenter…easy gradual turns will recenter. Still a handful at speed…but no death wobble or anything unpredictable.

so, I am running a 5 ''shackle bolt center to bolt center should I get a shorter shackle if so, what do you guys recommend I am running a 2.5-inch lift and 33 '' tires thanks for any input.

Overall view from front and side, each end of the spring from about 2 feet away, the spring perch showing the caster shims from about 2 feet away.

Others may have suggestions also.

What electric PS kit did you use?

I had to edit my post in #6 to. You shouldn't need a 8* shim with a 2 1/2" spring lift.

i will post some pictures when i get a chance but would 2.5-4'' shackles be better for caster than the 5'' that are on the fj know, thanks

Are your shackles in front (OEM location) or rear of spring?

I’m going to offer some unsolicited advice here, folks are really trying to help you. You need to help them help you.

This problem could’ve been solved 30 posts ago with some pictures and succinct description of what the issue is.

Many, if not most, of these folks have gone through so many issues that they are qualified geniuses on this subject. We like and strive to help. Pictures are key because these people know what to look for.

Scroll up and take pictures based on the previous asks. You’ll find the answers you seek.

Following this with great interest. My Saginaw steering is a little light. Great for k-turns and parallel parking but at 45mph and up, not too happy having such a light touch

will try and upload pictures today. Would shorter shackles help and what size would you go with, again thanks for all your input!!!

Looking at the angle finder pic which way is towards the frt? I would prefer the a/f to be on the edge of the bearing cap, but this might be close enuff.
