I have decided to sell my 1983 Toyota FJ60. The original game plan when I bought the vehicle last year was to ultimately bring it to a friend's body shop in FL for a restoration, but life has gotten a bit more complicated with two kids in college
I purchased the vehicle from whom I believe was the second owner. It's been a NC vehicle since new, according to the Carfax that I have. The previous owner parked the vehicle in 2009, with the intention of "restoring it someday". That day never came, and I purchased it in 2018.
I had my mechanic do what was necessary to get the vehicle operational for the road. This included a host of new parts, including:
Shocks all the way around, plus steering damper
Front and rear brakes
Spark plugs/wires/coil
Fuel filter
Radiator hoses
New battery cables made by iH8Mud member
New battery
New alternator
New OEM choke cable
Muffler and tail pipe
All fluids were changed, and the front and rear hubs were serviced, along with the transfer case.
All smog components are still on the vehicle.
Both recalls have been done: gas tank in 1994, and rear seat belt in 2019.
One of the main reasons I purchased this FJ60 was that it has minimal rust. There is no rust on the roof. I took a magnet to the body to verify that there is no filler in any of the panels.
The paint is original. The first owner apparently used some type of 1980's era Krylon to do some touch-up work on the paint. I invested about 20 hours carefully wetsanding the vehicle, and was successful in removing quite a bit of the spray paint.
When I purchased the vehicle, it had 145,231 miles on it. The vehicle was subjected to emissions testing here in NC, and mileage is documented on the CarFax. After my mechanic finished his work, I began driving it on a daily basis. At 146,199 the odometer froze, but the trip odometer is still working. As of right now, I have put just over 2,000 miles on it since last December. The car is currently in my garage in NC.
I have the original owner's manual, as well as the original Toyota tool kit. Dash has no cracks. The original AM-FM stereo works. A/C blows well, but is not cool. Heat works very well. The gas gauge is very inconsistent. Sometimes it is accurate, sometimes it's not. All other gauges work well. Driver's seat bottom is trashed, but all other seating surfaces are intact.
