I'm new to TLCA, but have been reading some of the older posts about Fort Fisher and/or Carolina Beach (Freeman Park). . .

The family is making a day trip to the area tomorrow. We have visited Carolina Beach a few times in the past two years, but are also considering Fort Fisher.

Any recent experience(s) from these two areas? I'll have a 2yrs and 5yrs old in tow. . .

Thanks in advance.

Depends on what you'd like to do.

Not sure of the price differences, they used to be the same, but not sure. Last time I went Fort Fisher was $10 a day to go. Not sure of Freeman...

Freeman: A lot of people are there (and some seem to stay there!), one big party (especially this weekend), you might not be able to park right up to the water, you may have to pull behind someone and share a spot... Trucks are allowed the entire distance, just not on the dunes.

Fort Fisher: Could also be busy, the good part about Fort Fisher is that you can only drive so far south, then you could walk to a more remote area (even if it's only 100ft) but you would get away from people not willing to walk a little.

I usually go down to Fort Fisher when I drive and park down by the fencing, my 3 year old loves it down there, and I can surf and not get in the way of a lot of people fishing...

Thanks.
I definitely want to avoid the party crowd. Carolina Beach has jacked their price to $20 ($100 for season pass). We'll probably try Ft. Fisher in the Taco...

Fort Fisher for sure. Should be less people and if the kids get hot and bored on the beach then you can make a quick trip to the Aquarium. Weather looks to be great!!

Trip has been put off until Friday -- toddler is fighting a stomach bug. . .
The aquarium is a favorite of my oldest (6) -- right behind the ferry ride from Ft. Fisher to Southport.
Where's Nam, NC? (Fayette-nam?)

I grew up and parents still live in Southport. I'll be there Friday afternoon with the wife and dog for the weekend/holiday so if you decide to take the ferry to Southport shoot me a PM and maybe we can meet up for dinner/drinks.

Trip was a success. Surf was very rough with some steady "wind" from the northeast requiring strategic placement of the Tacoma, but the lil' ones had a blast. Also got to see some full-size trucks get buried. . .
