I've been reading some articles about carb port and polishing. I had a 327 with a 2bbl Road Demon carb that I polished a long time ago and got incredible results. Now that my FJ60 needs a carb rebuild, and now that gas is so expensive, I figured I would polish the lead-in bell and match the manifold gaskets of my fj60's carb. I also wanted to put a nice finish on pretty much everything except where the butterflies are. The articles always warn against polishing the actual butterflies, so I want to be sure I dont trash my carb.

Has anyone done this? Or maybe I should buy another running carb to rebuild and polish, then swap on, and keep the original carb in case I fark something up....

Smoothing & blending should be OK. I sure wouldn't try to change any of the shape, but it sounds like you've done this before & know the drill.

For the 62 intake I would do a gasket match blended back into the intake as far as you can easily reach, and then consider having it Extrude-Honed to polish all of those areas where you can't reach.
If you haven't seen this before, picture what pumping abrasive "Play-Dough" through the intake at a high pressure would do for the inside finish of the manifold.
