Carb Rebuild question

I used the new rod that came with the rebuild kit. Just not sure where it is supposed to be positioned (how deep in the jet) in relation to the step-up jet when the throttle valve is closed. Thanks.

try using the one that was in there and take out the rebuild one.. do they look different? my guess is the taper is different and it'll idle but as you give it fuel it restricts it.

Yes the new rod has a different taper. Like you said it idles great but when giving it fuel it must be restricting it too much. The old rod is in very poor shape.

The factory manual for the 73 f engine gives a measurement for the step-up rod to the jet (2bbl carb). The older FSM does not give any measurements, so I am not sure what to do from here?

I would put the old metering rod back in.. it's just a brass, unless it gets really kinked you can straighted it without breaking. did you put in a different size jet too?

Installed the new step-up jet supplied with the rebuild kit, I am assuming they are the same size...
I will try putting the old rod back in, however, I used a spare throttle connecting link because the existing one was home made from PO. This puts me back in the same spot, I will probably have to adjust the link but do not know the the correct measurements. Thanks again for the response.
