The mechanic we've been using for quite awhile now has put the carb rebuild at $450, now since i'm on a tight budget i found this one at summetracing.com

http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=eadvsearch.asp&SearchType=Make

i was wondering if anyone has used this carb or had a previous good/bad experience. I'm also wondering if it's worth it to get this one or have the original rebuilt.

dude...1st, tell your mechanic to, "suck n egg!" then do a search on here for "JimC" aka "fj40jim". hes done A LOT of rebuilds on this board. -sean

I second using Jim Chenoweth (fj40jim@aol.com). When I was having smog problems and my local dealer couldn't/wouldn't tell me if OEM was available, I purchased a used carburetor from cruiserparts.net and had Jim rebuild it. It's been running perfect for five years.

Cruiserparts.net also shows they have rebuilt OEM carbs for much less than what your mechanic wants.

your link doesn't end up at a specific item. I found a "holley remanufacutred" for the land cruiser. I doubt that the holley would be better than the OEM carb for the FJ60 application.

If you have the stock Aisin on there right now, DEFINITELY rebuild it or replace it with another Aisin. Carb rebuild from Jim C should run around $200-250 and he's one of the best out there. There are also a few other guys on here that have their own shops that are pretty darn good as well. If you're somewhat mechanical and can read a diagram you can probably rebuild it yourself for about $25. Just get the right Keyster brand kit and take your time and take pics or go off of the Factory Service Manual. It does a nice job of breaking the carb down system by system and piece by piece.

Good luck.

I also just did the rebuild, it seemed terrible at first, then I realized it was easy, the hard part was all the linkage on the outside of the carb coming off, as Dave told me above, take some digital pics to have as reference, i looked back at pictures twice....

hullendersauce, that 2200 prm hesitation was all carb related....gone since rebuild..yeaaaa
