I am not sure this is the best spot for this question, but here goes.

I will be installing a Chevy 305. I came across a good deal on a 650 cfm offroad carb. The motor will be getting block hugger headers, an RV cam, and a single plane 4bbl torquer manifold.

Is a 650cfm carb too much for a 305?

Thanks,

Steve

You don't need 650cfm, but you can make it work fine. You might need to jet it down some to get it dialed in perfectly.

Its not likely you can use all that carb has to offer (like a 400sbc or a BBC) but that doesn't mean it won't work fine on your 305. The 750cfm quadrajet I'm using on my 350 came off of a 305 stock in a 1980 malibu. Had it on my 305 before I swapped in my 350 and never noticed a difference...except the 350 can utilize more of the secondaries than the 305 could.

PS Like the previous poster said...you may need to rejet.
