I have 1975 fj40 2f and you have to pull choke out to get engine to run right going down the road.I am not sure were to hook vacuum lines to carb.Dizzy need ported vacuum,AAP manifold vacuum, power valve manifold vacuum.Stock carb, header, desmoged. vacuum retard dizzy.

Do you have the idle solenoid attached to a 12V power supply that is hot when the key is in the on/run position?

When you turn the key to the ‘on’ position, do you hear a very audible ‘CLICK’ at the carburetor?

Please post up a few pictures of your carburetor as it is installed currently.

Solenoid is hooked to 12v and engine idles fine it just does not have good power under acceleration unless the choke is pulled out.

The vacuum retard distributor should NOT be connected to any vacuum fitting. Just run it as a straight mechanical advance.

As a workaround, measure the total mechanical advance available (should be ~30 deg @ crankshaft), then set base timing to give max total advance of 40 deg.
