Can someone tell me what exactly the carb fan is for? Always thought it was to...well...keep the carb cool and not heat soaked after shut-off. Is this due to intake/exhaust manifolds on the same side? 60s and 62s and FJ80s had them too, right?

My Oz world-spec FJ45 has no carb fan. Is it LHD- or US-specific?

Does it share the same purpose in an FJ80 but why no need on FZJ80+?

Because most are not equipped with all the emissions equipment that is featured on the USA trucks....

Why would the emissions equip. cause more vapor lock than any given carb sitting above the exhaust manifold?

Because the EGR is injecting hot exhaust gas back into the intake manifold, and because the air injection rail radiates heat from the head back out to the manifold side of the engine.
 
It is to prevent the fuel from boiling out of the carb after you turn off the engine. This is not vapor lock, which occurs on the suction side of the fuel pump.

Vapor lock is very rare or non existent on trucks like cruisers where the tank fuel level is above the fuel pump inlet so that it feeds by gravity. If you get vapor lock, it is more likely to be due to a restricted fuel filter or tank outlet.
 
OK, agreed that it helps cool the carb from the heat generated around it especially in after-run. I'm really curious if the US/NA or even just RHD's were the only market to get the carb fans though? LHD's have no logical place for the carb fan.

Why did the "carb fan" however continue its life in the 3F-E?

Those are USA trucks; they came with the carburetor cooling fan....
