When it rains it pours.. The LX470 was broken in to last night. No signs of forced entry. Not sure if they had one of the lock poppers. My wife's 2013 Ford Explorer Sport was broken in to last night as well and her door looks as if it was pried from the top. So far the list of stolen items is her purse, a backpack out of my car, headlamp, gloves, and misc military items i had in there. crap

Sounds like they used a wedge and rod to hit the unlock button. Takes about 15 seconds for someone who knows what they're doing.

Hate hearing about crap like this.

Just talked to the cops and that sounds correct. Also I guess they hit a bunch of people in my neighborhood.

Sorry to hear it. My LX 470 was broken in to when I lived in Houston. Hate that feeling being violated. So, I moved to San Antonio (wife got a new job).

Yep! That is exactly what I thought when I read the description. We carry something like you posted in our units, and use them if people lock their keys in their cars. This is it.....

BigEasy GLO Lockout Tool Kit

For 60 bucks you can be in a car in about 10-15 seconds. Push the wedge in the top corner (weakest part of the door), use the little bag and inflate it if you need a little extra space, and press unlock/hook the door handle. That is all it takes. I have gotten pretty good with it, and people are shocked how easy it is when you do it. Scary honesty, but they don't call it the "big easy" kit for nothing.

That is my worst nightmare. Since my house was broken into last July I don't leave ANYTHING in my car, at least anything visible to tempt someone. At least they didn't do any damage to the car.

Won't the alarm go off gif the door is unlocked and opened with one of those tools? IIRC when the alarm is set (doors locked via the remote) if you open the car from the inside the alarm goes off.

mine does... my wife has locked her keys in several times... pretty simple to wedge the top of the door and hit the button... but then the alarm sounds on hers every time... I now carry her spare key with me... which 100% guarantees it will never happen again

With these rods, it's easiest to just press the unlock button which would disable the alarm. I've used them at the shop when a tech locks the keys in a car that's being worked on. I'm not trained and really not that practiced and it usually takes about 30 seconds once the kit is out of the bag and the rod screwed together.

Exactly why I keep cameras around my house. Footage from my home surveillance has been used numerous times by police when investigating neighbor break-ins. #1 rule is to keep everything out of prying eyes.

Weird, that's not how my alarm works - found that out the hard way while camping. Locked myself inside the truck to sleep, woke up to pee and just unlocked the door and hopped out - alarm went off. I had to unlock it from the key fob in order to turn off the alarm.

Definitely had everything out of site. Most of the stuff was in a hunting backpack. Seems weird for them to target that.

You physically moved the lock tab with the red square painted on it, or you pressed the "unlock" button on the window/lock control panel? It's my understanding that the only way to prevent the alarm is to depress the electronic unlock button. Pulling the handle will set off the alarm, as well as physically moving the lock on mine. I will test it out again to re-confirm this when I get off work tonight.

I did the exact same thing. Bought my LX in Los Angeles and was driving home that first night of owning it. Stopped in a rest area to catch a few Z's and when I woke up, I physically unlocked the door (with the switch, not the button) and opened the door. Was treated to a blaring alarm and I was scrambling for about a minute trying to find the key fob and hit the button to shut off the alarm. Probably woke everybody up in that rest area.

Yeah, physically moving the lock tab (switch) with red square does not disable the alarm, at least on my 2000 and 2001 LX's. Got to hit the electronic unlock button or the button the key fab.

In my '99 LC if I lock the vehicle with my remote and the unlock button is hit from within the alarm goes off.

I just tested mine out.

Test 1: Locked it with the remote. Hit the electrical unlock switch on the door cluster. Nothing happened, didn't even unlock. Hit the electrical lock switch on the door cluster, heard the lock mechanism move in the locked direction again, hit unlock and still nothing.

Unlocked with the remote.

Test 2: locked it with the remote. Flipped the lock tab by the door handle into the unlocked position. The door unlocked but no alarm activation.

I didn't try pulling the handle, because really that wasn't what was in question.

Does anyone know if this alarm feature is something that can be changed/adjusted via one of the customize menus in techstream?

Are you waiting in the truck till the red alarm immobilizer light starts flashing?

I really wanted to join this thread so I had my Cruiser broken into this morning at 5:30am. Thief made off with some electronics and a stack of gift cards in the center console, but nothing that can't be replaced. I parked on a dark street late last night thinking it might not be a good idea to park there, but figured what are the chances. Guess I should have gone with my gut and parked elsewhere. s*** happens...over and over and over again.
