Capacity or mileage left when fuel light is on?

anybody know? how many miles left? or at how many gallons does the light get activated? is it typical toyota that runs forever on a fuel light? my old avalon went 50 miles and didn't die.

I've filled up twice right when the light came on to see what was left in the tank. Both times I filled it up with 15 to 15 1/2 gallons, so it seems there is 3-4 gallons left when the light comes on.

I've done about 3 fill ups and seem to be ranging in the 14-16 range with all city (4WD Manual) and 15-17 on a mixed city/highway. I'm hoping it will improve a bit more as the engine breaks in.

Three times my gas light has come on and all 3 times the pump shut off at only 14 1/2 to 15 gals. Seems kinda early. And, I've been getting 18-19 mpg, auto, 4x4, mixed driving.

I have noticed about 5 gallons still in the tank if I fill up when the light first comes on.

I've gone 100 miles with the light on. I filled up with 17 gallons after that so I was pretty close to empty.

shouldnt this information be in the owners manual?
