Hi everyone! As some of you know, I was sent to Haiti with my unit to help with the humanitarian relief efforts. Seeing as how I wasn't going to be using my car or truck, I decided I'd put the FJ in storage on post where it's supposed to be secure and safe and leave my car with my friend, so he'd have transportation to and from his appointments (he has PTSD and is awaiting a medical discharge from the Army). I'm not even in Haiti two weeks, when my First Sergeant tells me that my truck was broken into, as well as the vehicles of two other Soldiers. I'm thinking the worst while I'm gone and can't wait to get back now, after wanting to leave so badly. So I finally make it back on Tuesday, and here is what awaited me at the vehicle storage lot:

So... from what I gather, the front window was busted to get in and get my stereo. Having failed, the thief got frustrated and smashed my stereo face, along with parts of my dash (well, the vent, anyway), then proceeded to break the rear window for "good measure". All he took was my jumpmaster knife. Were it not for the storage bin over the gauge cluster, I'm sure my Ray Bans would've been gone too. Good thing not many people know about it.

And yea, I know my interior is dirty. I'd been procrastinating on cleaning it forever. I guess now I can get it done since I don't have to worry about messing up my stereo anymore. This is turning out to be a really bad year so far. Anyway, I'll probably turn it in to get fixed on Friday after work. I'll pick up my paperwork tomorrow from the lot and file a claim with insurance and the Provost Marshall on post. FML.

Wow, sorry to see this.
Thieves should be shot on sight.

How the heck did they get to a secure area like this?

Supposedly, they wait for people to come turn their vehicles in and since the workers used to leave the gate open while they were in there with soldiers, the thieves would sneak in and hide until the workers left, then have a field day. I guess they'd leave by jumping the fence or something. I'm not sure. I can't imagine waiting for the next time the gate opened. I would think there'd be days it didn't open at all. Anyway, that's what the worker-guy said. He said now they close the gate behind them and you have to be allowed in and out by them. Should've thought of that sooner.:hhmm:

Wow! Sorry to see that, not the best news while off helping humanity.

The post Provost should have a talk with the lot owner being they probably serve those on post primarily and should be able to have a secure lot.

Hope insurance doesn't become a hassle to get your rig back in shape, good luck with it all...

I went to the claims dept on post and they said after I submit my claim (I'm just waiting to get my estimate done until tomorrow and that'll be all I need), I should be reimbursed by the government for the repairs in a couple of weeks. Hopefully, the repairs don't take that long and I can be rolling around again in no time. Or should I try and see if I can get my insurance to pay for it, not tell the government, and collect that money? :P Then use that to buy goodies? J/K!

Bad Idea, Bro. Not a way to live life.

Big deal, you have broken window and stereo head unit. Relax. Its easily repairable. No need to stoop down to the level of the theives and steal from the government a.k.a tax payers.

Suck it up and move on.

I know. I was only joking. It just ticks me off that those of us who choose to live an honest life have to (more often than not) end up also paying for those of us that choose to live questionable lives. And they're the ones that seem to be winning. It's not fair.
