trying to go camping with some friends this weekend. I'm looking for some easyish lakes to get into that won't be super busy this canada day weekend
I'm interested a place that roughly meets these requirements and is near Mtn woodside, deroche Mtn., sylvester Rd., harrison mills area

1) a body of nice water to have a few dips in to cool down / screw around in
2) not busy
3) fairly easy access. all these trucks have been around hale creek and did fine
4) has room for about 4 trucks and tents

pics. would be great I appreciate the help if they wouldn't have given me such short notice I would have gone exploring myself.

Oh does anyone know how skookumchuck and sloquet hot spring are for traffic on the weekends?

ross lake?

Don't know anywhere in the Chwk area where there is stock truck access, lakeside, and not busy on a summer long weekend .

I haven't been to Ross Lake but I know the girl that patrols the BC Parks sites in the Chwk to Skagit area, she says that area can be a gong show on any given sunny weekend, let alone Canada Day / 4th of July.

US parks people are often armed. Seeing they access their campground via BC, I don't know if they carry side arms. My neighbour basically lives at the US campground in the summer and loves it there. He's never mentioned any gong show at that camp ground. I seriously doubt the Washginton parks people would put up with BS (armed or not) like they have to in Canada.

Like Martin says, on a summer weekend, every 2WD access lakeside camp is busy. Even throughout the interior it is the same. Personally, if I wanted a nice place to go with kids. I would go to Oriville to the state camp ground on Osoyoos Lake. They have a nice beach, big camp spots , spotless shower and washrooms. And of course, it is pretty much a given that the weather will be nice and hot It's night an day compared to the provincial and private campgrounds on the other side of the border in the Okanogan.

john If i wanted to spend the time to go to Oriville I have access to 2 Acres on the peninsula that way I have beach on both sides :) but my waverunner is no longer. so not so much fun for me and my girlfriend. but you are right Oriville is beautiful and they have that convenient one stop shop called princess you can even buy dry ice there.

Oh and these trucks are not 2Wd only the smalest truck is a Xterra with a 3 inch lift on 31's
both of the toyotas are TRD off road have rear lockers. so 4Wd not a problem.

But thanks anyways looks like its becoming a no go so I'm going exploring on friday.

Yes, I can even remember far enough back when Princess sold the best water melon in the world (Wenachee grown) for 3 cents a pound. Of course just South of them you got the taco trailer. Load up on a dozen of them and a few cold ones from Princess and you got a nice meal.

2 Acres and not the BC Parks camp ground. Hmmm? I might be bugging you in August. :)

.

I think the gong show mostly refered to the crown land area between Silver Lake and Skagit parks. But as I understood it this year the parks operating budget was severely cut, so typically just one back country ranger for the entire region. I don't tend to camp at parks sites if I can help it. That said I'll be kayaking some marine park sites this weekend.

Wait till you have small ones and SWMBO gets sick of bush camping or the kids get a fever and have you folding up camp in the middle of the night. That is when you appreciate a full facility private camp ground with showers, a pool, a laundry and a little store. Glad my kids are past that age.

well I went exploring on Mt. woodside on friday found cambell and stacey lakes not bad lakes but no beach or camp spots but good fishing. also went around elbow lake to find echo lake but Echo is all private.

then Sat. i went to widgeon creek for the day. beautiful there.

Sun. I went and hiked mount cheam took a while but the views were worth it.

Good to hear Brad. I spotted your cruiser heading east on hwy 1 on Friday before lunch as we were heading west.

Don't know if it's of interest to anyone but Sechelt Inlet Marine Park is a really nice place for a boating weekend. Rental of a double kayak for 3 days was fairly reasonable. Sites are rustic backcountry free camping, private and not at all busy. No showers laundry or stores for ice cream though...
