Ok normal 62 with rear automatic locker. First off i was checking my rear with both tires jacked up and yes the engine was running in neutral(front wheels caulked of course) ................butttttttt the rear wheels was STILL turning.

I could stop them by hand and rotate directions with no issues and of course i had the normal clack of the locker when doing this but how in the blazes could the wheels still turn with the auto in neutral?

To make sure i have not completely lost my mind i slipped the transfer into neutral and of course the wheels stopped turning.

Today was just a routine check.... nothing lead me to believe nothing was wrong. I am sure this is simple:doh: but the workings of this puzzles me

In neutral the "safety lock" is not engaged. The pressure buildup from the motor spinning the TC is still going to be able to turn the wheels slightly.. Think of it like a windmill..

Yup, I agree, just a function of the auto tranny.

FYI, it also happens when you've fooled with the trans or valve body and there happens to be some bleed-over of pressures. My Dodge's 727 trans would spin the rear wheels up to 35 mph until I dialed the VB in better after a trans rebuild and shift kit install.

only thing other than the cruiser CLUNK wrong that i know of is the little bit of tranny fluid that spills over into the transfer case.:meh::lol:but that is really common on these autos:beer:
