I ended up buying a whole new axle assembly for a few dollars more than the cost of buying 2 CV boots so basically everything will be new. (I do have the FSM.) Since every auto repair task seems to have some hidden headaches or ways to make the job easier, any helpful do's or dont's would be greatly appreciated before I do this.

Thanks,

One version of the Camry has a midship bearing half way down the length of the passenger side shaft.

It's a giant PIA to deal with. The FSM says you can get it out with the bearing mount in the car. You can't. you need to pull the mount. You pull the bolts and then pry back on the mount to clear a locating dowel. You can then wiggle the mount and shaft off. Pull the retaining clip and use a big ass press to press the bearing out of the mount.

That sir is the side that I will be working on, and I like to hear that! Probably going to do it at work next Saturday. Any thoughts on a time frame? I know that is very subjective but I was thinking 1-2hr?

Hmmm....I'm getting some clunking from up there on my 95 with 129k. Post up how it goes. I suppose I need to pick up a FSM before I tear into mine also.

Dammit, you're right I forgot about the bearing on these. Not a nice side to deal with.

1-2hr is about right given a lack of unforseen problems and a modicum of mechanical skills.

You'll need a pickle fork, a torque wrench, a big ass socket (1-1/4?), a 17mm open end wrench, and a big pry bar. The bigger the better. I use a 6 footer. You might want a smaller one too to pop the inner out.
