I got a 92 Camry and it works good for the most part, but I can't drive it unless I let it warmup for at leat 10 minutes or so. Is this normally for a vehicle of this age and miles, I'm use to being able to start and drive. If I don't let it warmup it normally dies at intersections, stop signs, just about anywhere where I have to stop and the rpms comes down. Yet it's fine after being warmed up..

I thought about maybe adjusting the idle to a higher rpm. I just put a bottle of that SeaFoam stuff in the tank to clean it up a little.

And when I put it in reverse it feels like I'am in one of those massageing beds that you put money in, some serious vibration going on there..

TIA

Sticky fuel injector or dirty mass airflow sensor. Both will seriously hurt your gas mileage, so even if you can live with the stalling you should check them out anyways.

While you're at it, you might also consider replacing the following for reliability's sake:
-plugs
-wires
-air filter
-fuel filter
-clean throttle body

I've already put new plugs, wires, filters, and a new throttle cable.

This car worked fine and then it sat for about a year with little driving, yes it has fresh gas, and now this problem is coming about..

How would I remedy a sticky fuel injector or a dirty mass airflow sensor??

Also where should this thing idle at when warmed up?? I was thinking maybe the idle got messed up when the new cable got put on??

thanks..

The car should idle between 550 and 650 rpm.

Your mass airflow sensor is between the air filter box and the throttle body. It should look like this:

Unplug it, pull it out, and spray the ENTIRE inside with carburetor cleaner. The big "valve" inside should move freely and easily.

Go to AutoZone or equivalent and get a bottle of "Techron" fuel injector cleaner. Fill up your gas tank, throw in the injector cleaner, and see if that makes a difference. It should at least help. If it doesn't help, you should just replace your injectors.

Thanks

I pulled the hose off and looked inside the throttle body and it was incredibly dirty:eek: Looked like someone had smeared chewing tobacco in there or something..

I took some carb cleaner and sprayed it up in there real good, and while it was running. There was a noticeable difference. So I went ahead and choked it up with cleaner and gonna let that sit over night. I think I should try to get a new hose from the air box to tb. The old one is getting brittle and I've had to tape it up a few times to keep it from sucking dirty air in..

Do you think some worn out motor mounts are causing the vibration when in gear??

Thanks again.

you may have just poked yourself in the ass by spraying carb cleaner on your mass air flow sensor. your only supposed to use specialized MAF cleaning spray or a non-chlorinated carb spray. regular carb spray has led to them being completed fawked. i've heard of some using a diluted vinegar solution but in your case it might even be a self igniting MAF where upon iginition it super heats itself and burns away all the dirt from the element.

the whole not heating up, sounds like your thermostat might be stuck on the open. replace it, its probably a 4.00 part.

could be a series of vacuum leaks as well, spray carb spray or simliar around bases of throttle body or on suspected vacuum items, if idle increases 9 outta 10 you have a vacuum leak.

yes, you could have a worn out tranny or engine mount....should be noticable when idling if your mounts on its way out

While you have the intake hose off, inspect it for cracks...

It's runing like new now.

Ran some good cleaner through, the carb cleaner in TB, all made it alot better,

Then I went ahead and put another new fuel filter in, and that made it alot better, I had just put one in a month or so ago, I guess something was wrong with it:rolleyes:

Now I can just start and go, thanks for yall's help:cheers:

BTW I hate working on this car, seems like I have to take half of it apart just to get to another parts, I'm gonna have to take the rear seats out to replace the shocks:doh:
