Hello All,

We have 3 rigs coming up from Florida for a week (July 1st-11th) of trail riding and exploring in Ouray Colorado. 2 of us will have roof top tents and one will be staying in the back of his 80. None of us have ever been there before but are trying to figure out where to stay at night. We would all like to camp, good camp site options or camping on the trail would be awesome if that is a viable option.

Any info would be great,
Thanks,
~Al

We'll be out at that time as well :)

Primitive camping options are good...head S of Ouray on 550 towards the Ironton area (on Google maps) - there are primitive/open camping spots on the E side of the road there, plenty of spaces. Lots of "obvious" options on various trails as well...constant little camp sites you could pull into for a night.

There are a ton of great dead-end trails in the Silverton area with camp options at the top...remember the elevations tho, and expect snow still on the ground (yes, even in July). We got married at Clear Lake just NW of Silverton on July 10, 2014....2012 and 2013, drove to the lake edge...2014, had to break snow for the last 100 yards...2015, snow was FEET deep and we hiked the last mile to the lake. Be prepared :)

If you want something "less" primitive, as you leave Ouray to the south, there is the Amphitheater Campground.

If you end up seeing a Deo and I make sure you stop on by. Just look for 3 Yotas with florida plates. Hope you have safe travels man. I think its been about 10 years since we were on the trails together! PM Deo if you want to have a beer by the fire...

Thanks for the beta
