I primered my rusty spots...taped off the windows and the lights and started blasting! :D

If a little bit of paint flakes off...it'll be easy enough to fix!!

LT1-62, I took some 220 grit sand paper to the original finish to scuff it up enough for the paint to stick, then used tack cloth between coats to knock off the crumbly bits of spray paint that dry in mid-air.

Get a bucket of hot water to soak your cans in, it increases nozzle velocity and decreases the amount of mid-air drying. Not boiling water, but hot.

Don't expect one coat to cut it. It may be rattle cans, but you still have to follow the multi step processes used in expensive coats.

You know....if you've got a compressor and a gun, you can get a pretty kick ass can of paint from NAPA and have a MUCH better outcome doing a "driveway" job.

I've done rattle can jobs too, and admit the idea is cool. But...for basically the same amount of money you can get professional paint and shoot it?

I realize not everyone has a compressor or gun....but if you do...(they aren't expensive either)...

Cool Pics...

GOT4LO on that Jeep? Man...at first glance...for half a red c*nt hair of a second I thought you owned two Cruisers!!....

Hey what's up with the Heap Wrangler?

Can't believe nobody has jumped on that one yet.....

Too easy maybe????

I've been thinking of doing the camo thing on my 40. It needs work anyhow and with the
green base paint it would be easy.

Those wagons look great!!!!!

You guys/gals discriminate against Jeeps!! Shocking!!

I never see any Toy-bashing on my Jeep sites!!

Hehe...I'm a little too old for brand-bashing...to each his/her own is my motto. If it's dirty, I think it's OK! :D

So enthused was I this afternoon (and bored of university) I went to talk to a few auto paint shops around town. A mate of mine has a compressor and a gun so Ive decided to do a only half ghetto job and use a gun to do a mat olive drab job. Thing is Im confused as hell now cause the first guy I go talk to shuts me down right away and says no its impossible to do good matt job, you get heavy streaking due to the matting agent in the paint and it doesnt weather properly and doesnt stick properly and blah blah Im a fat arrogant dickhead. He then says that I should use a two-pack primer, looks like matt black and weathers well cause of about 10 reasons I cant remember. Anyway so the next guy I talk to says nah sweet you can do it easy, that the flat green wont be prone to streaking and that a 2 pack matt black primer will have way worse weathering properties. So anyway I came away feeling confused and was just wondering whether any of you folks had enough painting experience to comment. This prob isnt the right forum to get definitive answers on this but thought Id ask anyway....

When I flat blacked my cruiser (above) there were quite a few streaks and splotches. You NEED to sand it down lightly between coats to help eliminate this problem. Mine looks great now.

On the Jeep topic:

I agree with you 744, but I am still shocked that everyone left it alone for once!

I was being facicious (however you spell that?) by the way........That is one pretty Jeep from what I see of it.

I'm sure the Wrangler would be more comfortable/affordable to drive down the road than
my 40.

Of course I wouldn't trade my 40 for anything but another 40. I love that BEAST !!!!!

funny because i noticed the jeep too, but held by tongue...my wife drives a Jeep, but its a Grand Cherokee (not that it makes a difference, its still a Jeep/Heep). it doesn't go off road anyway, so it really doesn't matter in my case. it has been good to us.

i actually like the way the new wrangler looks with the extended back..don't know the name of it, but it looks pretty cool at least.

This may be hieracy, but I have long been a fan of CJ8's and the new extended wheelbase heep has potential. I saw one in town the other day with 6"'s of lift and 35's, very sweet.

tisk tisk steve steve steve...those things are too tiny

haha well when ever you wanna take the trip up and buy those 35s off of me so I can get some 37s let me know...

Oh, the grill is still out pending a decision. I need to decide wether I'm going to re-chrome the entire thing, or flat black everything but the "TOYOTA" in the middle, chrome that part?
Chroming the whole grill is a cool idea but how do you chrome plastic? I assume you take it to a specialty (electro plating?) place but where do you guys think a good place to even ask about getting this done would be?

Just grab a can of rattle on chrome and spray away!
