Schweet!! Can't say I ever envisioned myself rattle-canning an entire vehicle. :D That was some good red-neck fun right there! :D

Sweet

Not everyone can roll cammo! Troy

One of the PO's of my truck painted it maroon over the stock champaigne, but not the door sills, etc. Drives me nuts. I have been considering rattlecanning it either NATO tan or olive green, flat, of course. :)

How did you prep? Did you mask everything? How long did it take? Looks like you painted most of the emblems, etc. Give me some more details, please. :) :)

I just taped off the windows/lights/ect. and started blasting! I figured it's not a professional job anyways...if a spot lets some paint go.....ppppppffffff.....painted good as new again in about two minutes. :D I did scrape at the rusty spots a little to get any loose stuff gone. That's about all the prep I did. Took about four hours.

I still grin looking out at it in the driveway. :D

I've been removed from Toyotas for awhile now...it's good to be back.

What rims are those? Got a source or a model number? Any problems with the rims rubbing the caliper? The camo looks pretty good too.

If you're speaking about my rims...those are the stock Cruiser rims...I just buzz-bombed those flat black while I was at it! :D

I rattle can'd mine today as well.

I call it 'project stealth'. Flat black. Looks mean as all hell.

Painting your own car is fun, isn't it?!

All the cool kids are doing it! Let's see a "night-ops" Cruiser. Post it up! :bounce:

Dang, you're right. I was looking at Troyintahoe's camo job and rims.

Nice trucks....

I have always wanted a camo truck.

I have thought about giving the HJ the nato look but just can't bring myself to do it......yet ;)

Rims

The rims are American Racing AR-767. 15x10 with 4 inch back space. I made my own hi-steer so I have no problems with back space (Rubbing). Troy

doc,
you need to post some pics of it. i have seen your original pics of it, but post up what your rig is looking like these days...

Ok-

Before: check out those running boards!

Today: After one full coat, and a wet sand. I still need to touch up and final sand it. Also, front marker lights disintigrated upon removal- anybody have a spare set laying around? I don't need lenses, but the actuall light housing body. All paint is rust-oleum flat.

And because of the lovely summer heat- I decided to be a little different (for heat reflection):

So far, so good. I like it. Gives it a much meaner look. Looks more like a cruiser too without those dumb running boards!

Oh, the grill is still out pending a decision. I need to decide wether I'm going to re-chrome the entire thing, or flat black everything but the "TOYOTA" in the middle, chrome that part?

Also an added benefit is that any trail damage is easily touched up. The main reason for doing this was to grind out some serious rust patches, but I didn't want to leave big patches of primer on the truck, so I went all in.

How are you going to rechrome the plastic, paint??

I've never been a big friend of flat black because in my opinion, it fades quicker, stains more easily, and scratches off faster than glossier paints. I kinda like satin black myself, that's what I use for most Cruiser applications.

just getting rid of those running boards made a heck of a difference.

I just taped mine off. I also was afraid they'd fall apart upon removal. :D

Yeah, I'll just use that chrome paint to re-create the factory coating.

And yes, the running boards made more of a difference than I realized. Plus, I gained about 8" of ground clearance, as not only did the running boards hang down, but the cheezy mounting hardware hung down below the bottom of the boards too!

Sickest rides out

Damn, those are some dope paint jobs, and so easy! I am in the middle of doing up my 62 and after blowing budget on suspension and engine transplant I was wondering where I was gonna get the money to paint my beast, BUT I think I have discovered the solution! Rattle can it! Did any of you guys rub down before and/or between coats? Also, here in New Zealand, it is (apparently) illegal to olive-drab your ride so I'm kinda wondering if I can get away with an off shade, I wont be going full camo but mat green or mat black are on the cards. Im pretty keen to debadge as well and will prob leave most of my chrome, anyone have any pics of this nato tan Im hearin about?
