Camelback online parts has been my go to for years for oem parts as they had good prices and free shipping for orders $150+ (which often caused me to order for future needs and buy additional stuff). They also had a small discount with code twpartz. I've literally spent thousands and thousands of $$$ from them and recommended a ton of people to them.

Unfortunately, they have revamped their website and from what I can see, have removed free shipping and any coupon options.

Are there any other online dealers that still offer free shipping?

Amazon, I buy most of my parts through them. Often the sellers are Toyota dealers so you know the parts are authentic. Also tax free if you buy from a seller without a business presence in your state. Sometimes you still need the dealer for certain less common parts.

My local dealer is a butthead about parts, but I have 2 other dealers within an hour of me offer to provide a 25% discount off OEM prices with no charge shipping to their parts department. All I had to do was personally see the parts director and ask. I’ve made it worth their while with $1000s in parts orders over the last few years, including orders from fellow MUD members I’ve sent their way (who get the same discount). It also doesn’t hurt that I know what I’m doing and give them part numbers and quantities so it’s really easy for them.

I'll second that, call around. Someone close will want the business.

We have 3 dealers in the Spokane area. All charge retail, or higher it seems, but maybe I haven't spoken to the right people.

Tried ordering a $22 center wheel cap from Camelback and they added almost $19 for shipping at checkout ($41.40 plus tax). So I guess I am done with them. That gets way above retail, and they don't stock most parts, so you wait a while to get delivery. They have also left out parts a few times, which has delayed projects, but the free shipping kept me coming back.

Ordered from Norwalk Toyota with the Mud discount it was about $30 shipped. McGeorge was reasonable too. Amazon didn't stock the cap I needed. EBay prices were no better.

See whether the local parts counters have someone “behind the wall” that handles business to repair shops and such. Explain you have the ability to provide part numbers, which saves them a TON of time and work. Not necessarily looking for wholesale pricing, just to give the business you would be giving to a website to a local company.

You’ll be a lot more likely to get a discount if they know they won’t have to do any work for the revenue.

That said, for anyone near central Texas parts.autonationtoyotasouthaustin.com has been great to work with and only charges 5.50 for will-call. No free shipping to my knowledge. By now the guys at the counter know me well enough that I can sometimes call and they’ll give me internet pricing, though I am usually doing the work for them as mentioned above.

I’ve ask my local dealer if they would price match. They did with out a issue.

Here's what I would like to know - what's the dealerships markup on parts sales? Where are the parts sourced ultimately, and how much markup inbetween source and dealership? And I'd like to see a breakdown of costs associated with the price dealerships charge, whether it's import tax, sales tax, etc tax. I'd just like to know. Please find out for me.

FWIW, Camelbak told me they parked prices up 25% from wholesale cost when they offered free shipping. I was told that prices have gone down since they started charging for shipping, but no noticeable difference from what I can tell. Dealers, many of whom sell at or above list price, are making pretty penny on these parts, and it is a great business as they don't stock much of anything so very little carrying cost.

Having I'm just being inquisitive.

Thanks for asking. This is a niche vehicle so I'm sure costs are inflated in general. But some of these dealer prices are out of this universe.
