I have a problem with the rear caliper bracket aka torque plate. One of the lower bores is pretty rusted where the bore with the rubber boot on the guide pin is. Anyone have a good way to clean it up and bore/hone it? Local dealer said 2 weeks out on the bracket so I'm calling cdan. I would like to see if I can clean it up so the new guide pin will work. I saw a suggestion of using a gun cleaning kit with a bronze brush but I think I will need something more aggressive to clean out the rust. So probably a lost cause.

Thanks for the help-rarely can I not find the answer after searching but I didn't find anything specific.

Check online with Grainger, MSC or another tool supply company. A small ball hone should clean it up. The bronze brush on a firearms cleaning kit is not stiff enough to cut rust. Good Luck.:)

how I would do it

I might try wrapping some crocus cloth around a wooden dowel of appropriate size. Pour some penetrant inside the bore, insert the wooden dowel and (patiently) sand away. Between the crocus cloth and the penetrant, the rust should come free. To remove every last bit of rust, drop some Whink rust remover into the hole to neutralize the last remaining rust. You do not want to use regular de-ruster, it will create a film of primer on the inside of the bore. Whink just liquifies it and it washes off. Make sure to do a final cleaning of the inside of the bore with brake cleaner, in fact you will probably be wanting to clean it out regularly during this cleaning process.
