Looking at a possible move to San Diego in the next few months. I was curious about how difficult it would be to register my NC Hundy? What about smog? Can some give me an idea of what yearly registration cost? Thanks in advance.

the registration on my 99lx with personalized plates is about 120 a year ( 35-45 of that is for the personalized plate I believe ) smog is fairly simple on this car here, I have never had issues with mine and I have exhaust, intake

My 2000 costs about the same as Scott6573's each year. Add in smog testing every other year at about $50. As long as you don't have aftermarket catalytic converters or headers, and aren't throwing any CEL codes, you should be fine. CA requires emissions-related component manufacturers to have their products certified by CARB (clean air board) and many opt not to. The bigger exhaust and intake companies usually do get certified, so that's less of an issue.

Don't do it!!!!
I just brought an 2006 LC from Florida. Took longer to fill out the paper work than to smog. For that year they do a quick visual (if any) and plug into the OBDII sensor to confirm all is working properly. $55 for smog. Highly recommend having AAA and registering at one of their shops. Getting her inspected and tagged took about 20 minutes and they had zero question about me listing the sale price of $2500. Out the door with tax, title and tags was about $240. This was all in the Poway area. What part of SD are you looking to move

Not sure exactly I will be living, still waiting on the firm job offer. Damn Govt lol

Thanks for the information everyone. I'm originally from Sacramento and I'm looking forward to being back in the desert and Sierras!

must have stock air box, stock header, stock Cat.

If any of these are changed out, CARB sticker will be needed on the device. K&N filter is OK.

Since the truck is AWD, it can not go on the dyno rollers, so its reving test at RPM ranges plus visual inspection for above parts.

I did cut of my resonator, still have cat and muffler will this be a problem?

Removing the resonator won't affect your emissions numbers, only the decibels. I dont think they'll even notice.

CA AAA? I'm a AAA member already, what is the difference or is there?

Yah, I don't know how it works - but if in NC you are a member of AAA Carolinas branch most likley.....I don't know how/if you can switch your membership to another state....

No difference. If you are already a AAA member that is great. They have a few offices around the SD area but not all of them do the registration. Both times going to AAA took about 20-30 minutes from walking in to walking out. Even with an appointment at the DMV the last time I was there it took about 3.5 hours.

Just waiting on a firm job offer now

AAA is basically like a franchise, call Calf. AAA [I beleave there is So. Cal AAA and Northern Cal.]
www.aaa.com

I work for AAA here in CA. You membership from any State works the same here. No issues at all. If you do end up living here full time we can help converting your membership to California. As others have said we offer Smog checks as well and I highly recommend them. We are test only And offer a discount to AAA members.
