I had a bunch of people at the OBX trip and the Uwharrie trip asking me what wheeling was like back in Cali and what we actually did for fun in the deserts back home.
My friends just went out to Glamis and sent me some pics so I thought I'd share. (can't wait till November to have some more desert fun... and Surf and Turf)

One would think that perhaps the grill belongs to the man that owns the motorcoach in the background, thats camping at a whole new level....

Yeah it's my friends dad's grill and motor home

The white SD that is being jumped also belongs to my friend

Anyone else want to meet up and go to SNT 09 this year??

I'm flying :p
Camping in the desert, Sema show, SNT
In that order

If your talking about the one that has my friend in the pic.
Same concept as cookie cutters on drag cars. Big tires on back small ones on front. That thing right there is built for speed. I'm not sure how fast it goes but we were going about 65 down a sand drag strip in 95 tacoma and he passed us from way back like we were standing still, I mean he must have been going over 80 easily.... and that was before the recent round of parts.

That is one sick grill and I swear the pic above was taken at Carolina Beach :grinpimp:.

Nope, that looks like a real american flag there. Stars and Bars and i'd agree w/ ya though. I suitemate of ours in Cali had a lifted F-650 pickup body like that (thanks dad). Insane.

Cool pics Al.

"that kind of money" is quite different now, than just a year ago. You can pick up a huge RV for next to nothing now. Relatively, of course. The money part comes in the travel end of it. That thing never got better than 9mpg. However, we stayed in a lot of wal-mart parking lots overnight for free. We ate pretty much all our meals out of the RV, which saved a good bit of cash. We also camped in state parks when we got out west. In most parks, you can stay in a full hookup spot for less than $30/night. That includes your water, sewer, power, and internet access. Heck, the last one even had a sweet restroom facility, a lake, bike trails, an R/C plane field, etc. At those rates, it starts making selling the house and going full time a viable option. In fact, we met a lot of folks that did this full time. Many of them "volunteer" at the campgrounds in exchange for free stay and they get to avoid the maximum stay terms.

Very very true Barry.

The bank my pops works for repo'd a 2004 motorhome like the one pictured above. Diesel, 16k miles, dual slide outs, flat screens, the works. It retailed new for 165k and they sold it for 63k...WOW. Deals are to be had.

Dang, 63.000 That is a dang good deal that even i could aford.

Well, maybe a while from now as a bid on a nice house in Raford just got accepted.

Yep, used to camp every year with the grandparents and family at a campground off the Davidson River near SW of Asheville. The camp leaders were just volunteers that were on "tour" (that's what i called it) and stayed for free and watched over the camp.

Pretty cool. Definately something to think about at retirement age if you have no debt and can swing it.

I was asked if i wanted to volunteer at Badin a while back. Would of been for about a month.

Only problem was a camper and the time off. Could of rented a trailer on Post , but the time off would of been a but harder.
