More progress today. Put the turbo back together after cleaning it up. Doesn't leak or burn oil so I'm not going to rebuild it just yet. Coated the turbine housing and the exhaust manifold. New studs in the manifold, new studs for the head. The EGT probe is located near the #5 cylinder.

Now, onto that broken bolt. It's the #1 cylinder, lower right bolt. Broke off actually below flush. I'm either lucky or good, but I managed to perfectly center my drill bit. As you can see I used a die grinder to hold the bit, space is a bit cramped in there.

And voila!

Ran a tap through it (and all the other ones too) and she's ready to reassemble... Maybe tomorrow. I was waiting on the paint for my valve cover and turbo pipes to dry :)

Decided to quit messing with the ancient Denco turbo and just upgrade to a new Garrett T3/T4. Relatively easy install, I was able to reuse my existing turbo manifold, downpipe and oil lines. Intake piping and crossover pipe had to be remade, but that wasn't too hard. Turbo blanket really keeps the heat down near the batteries. This thing drives like a normal truck now! It's not going to win any drag races, but it cruises comfortably at highway speeds and accelerates like my 4 cylinder Tacoma. I'm happy with how it turned out. Running at 5 PSI, boost comes on quickly, and I can hit a max of 900 degrees on my EGT at full throttle. Typically it's under 800. I could probably turn the fuel up and bring the boost up too, but I'm going to leave it as is for awhile and see how I like it. Anyways, pics:

And just for fun, decked it out for my company Christmas party :)

More progress this weekend. Built a rear box. Used a weatherguard packrat as the base and welded tabs on to hold the side pieces and seat bracket. It allows me to retain the rear seat, and flipped forward gives me a full sized sleeping area. I'm happy with how it turned out.

Took my first road trip with the troopy this weekend, went to the Rolex 24 at Daytona and camped in the infield. Drove 3 hours each way, cruised comfortably at 65 mph! I was impressed. Even managed to average 16 mpg fully loaded. New turbo really helped drivability. Next trip will be a little more remote camping, but it was still a great weekend!

Installed an ARB locker I got off mud awhile back yesterday. It was for a c-clip 9.5 but my understanding is that a c-clip ARB will work in a non c-clip rear end, but not vice versa. Sure enough, super simple swap. I love full float rear axles. Stock gear ratio.

Still need to hook up the compressor and lines, but the diff is installed and sounds GREAT. The original diff had a lot of play, I'm thinking it was the original 640,000 km one for the truck. I didn't realize how clunky the original diff was until I got this new one in there.

Making progress, gotta get the truck ready for a long drive to TN :)
