So hey guys, cross post here. I put the below up in the general 80's board but wanted to call out to my SoCal brotha's...

I remember how active this clubhouse was from back in the day so figured you were the bunch to ask...

So I'm back in CA, N.Cal. and need to... ummm... well meet CA Smog at some point down the road once again.

Does anyone have experience running 95's Magnaflow Y pipes and inline cats on a 94?

Thanks guy, miss ya all :-)

Looking to update my cats.

Any reason why these wouldn't fit, same 4.5 from 93 on......
MagnaFlow 447103 Large Stainless Steel CA Legal Direct Fit Catalytic Converte: http://www.amazon.com/MagnaFlow-447...sbs_263_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0TT4ZKHHTPBZTNDMNGDK

I understand these are for 95 and up where the cats were in series, 94 had them side by side.

Seeing how this is a pre ODB2 rig, in CA....

Could I run these? There doesn't seem to be a Magnaflow complete with down pipes for 94's just universal cats..

I'd rather not have them at all.... but alas wonderful CA.... If i must I'd rather have them inline where I can tuck them up better then side by side.

Welcome back...there goes the NCal neighborhood! :flipoff2:

No real clue on your question, but if the cats are CA legal and you can install your '94 O2 sensors, why wouldn't they be legal? Post up when/if you really find an answer and do the work. Had you removed your cats when you moved out of state or are they just toast?

Brent,

The cats are still there.... Just the good old "high flow" mod done since I was up in OR.

I'm running a 3.5 cat back SS with a magnaflow now, so it seems like it would be a good idea to update from the Y down at this point anyways.

Just wasn't sure how flexible good old CA was these days. I've heard you can only install parts for that exact rig, crazy codes and such.

Don't want to drop the cash only to be rejected at the smog refs.

Ah - I guess suggestion of talking with the smog ref's in the 80's section thread might be a good idea. Maybe a call to Magnaflow? They may know the CA regs since they build to CA specs as needed.

I'd doubt CA has gotten any more flexible. All I'm aware of is that on newer cars that can 'plug in' to new smog equipment that they don't even put your car on the dyno any longer. They just plug the car in, read the OBDII sensor information, do a cursory inspection and you're gone. I 'think' that's for 05-06 or newer. Found this out when I took my daughters 05 Scion xA in for smog.

This obviously doesn't apply to our trucks! At least CA never implemented a full time 4wd drive dyno test!

Magnaflows will not fit side by side with stock pipe...I had to get some Catco ones welded on side by side..they were an ok price..if you can find some bolt on ones and you are still on OR plates and had them "installed" in OR..you should be fine..just make sure your EGR works, they will test it, also they pressure test your gas tank and cap..

Thanks, not looking to run side by side..

Rather run inline like 95 and up... Or just run one... Being I'm 94 OBD2 / 1 there is some question and "grey-ness" about what can be done...

1 question will the 95 Y bolt up to a 94... Not sure why it wouldn't...

2nd question, being its 94 and really a OBD1 system can I use basically any cat, seeing how the o2's are pre cat anyways.

Thanks,

-A
