I tried posting on an Xterra site then noticed all the buying threads were going unanswered.
I’ve been half heartily looking for a cheap truck or SUV for dog duty and camping (2nd vehicle). I had my heart set on a FJ80 or 100 land cruiser (or LX) but haven’t had luck locally in CT. One of my wild card picks is an obnoxious yellow xterra with round headlights, and I passed the pictured 2002 for sale today. I took a quick look. I find the rust in the back concerning although Ive seen so much worse here in salty CT. I know nothing about Xterra, anything I should look out for? Is 159,000mi a lot for a Nissan? $3500 isn’t outrageous but I have a feeling this could be a money pit.

Watch out for coolant contamination in the tranny. Fluid will look thick & milkshakey. There is a bypass mod one can do if it’s not too late.

if its the supercharged motor I would skip it, not really all that much extra hp and much worse on gas. with that mileage itll be hit or miss the quality can vary a lot with Nissan, their the gm of japan.

Thanks for the replies. I Forgot to look for a transfer case when I looked under its skirt... Turns out it's 2wd. I'll keep holding out for a unicorn FJ80 or 100
