What should I buy? A rock crawler/racer or trophy/stadium truck?

I'm looking at being restricted from doing any fun stuff for awhile(motocross, wakeboarding, driving my 40) while I recover from a fairly serious injury to my left leg. I don't do so well with sitting around the house. I have a .5 acre backyard which is perfect for a rc car. I have a couple of rock ledges as well flat open spaces that would great for either type of car. As a kid, I a Clodbuster, Blackfoot and a Losi truck of some sort.

What do you suggest?

The Ih8mud of rc crawlers:

Kits are a good way to eat up sometime building and re-building.

Axial Wraith is a good mix of crawl and bash, Axial Exo is close to a SC truck.

RC4WD Trailfinder 2 is an awesome scaler.

and there's always craigslist.

Hope you heal fast-Billybongo

An Axial Wraith would be a good compromise. It can be fast or it can crawl. Set it up with a brushless motor and a 3s battery.

Wraiths generally like large open areas to crawl in. They are top heavy and don't do very well at high angles. I have a SCX-10 and I can outrun a Wraith on a scale course, scale trails, and small rocky areas. They Wraith will stomp me on the wide open areas and larger rocks. As for a trophy truck, I have had many. They are fun, but they get old quickly unless you have a track to run it on. When they break, it's $$$. All these toys are $$$, just be prepared when you walk in after hitting a tree at 40MPH.

ConcreteJ is that a XR10?

Im in the same boat, grew up bashing a Clodzilla4. Friend has a SCX10, STAMPEDE 4X4 VXL, and a thunder tiger mt4 g3. the SCX10 is nice, haven driven the Stampeed VXL, the thunder tiger is just a monster.

But i like Crawling more then anything so im drawn to the XR10. or put my clodzilla back together

On CL...good deal to get right to the sweet spot! It's only a matter of time before you start throwing upgrade parts at it...just like your rig;)

"I have an Axial Wraith that is 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel steering. Aluminum servo arms and steering linkage front and rear. All electronics are now in the rear ant the batteries are in the front. Has separate battery for the light on a switch. Comes with a Lipo 2 S battery and a DX3C radio. New interior and new exterior panels. Asking $500.00 or best offer. No trades. 505-220-333two"

The top picture was my first RC rig and it was a losi comp crawler. It was a great little rig, but once i maxed out its capabilities i went with the XR10 (lower picture). Love it, but like ANY crawler out of the box there are weaknesses that you will need to upgrade. For the XR it's gears. For the losi, it's worm drive so the axles and CVs are the weak link and you have to grease and service the worms on a regular basis.

If you are into crawling, the rccrawler.com board is a lot of info.
