Hi everyone,
My 98 Landcruiser which I have owned for eight years nearly totally trouble free, is giving me a problem!
Took it out tonight and it just keeps going up and down as if I was going over really bumpy ground.
It's hard to explain. Going on a level road it is slightly bumpy but when you DO go over a bump, it really exaggerates it. Scaryish! Up and down, up and down.
Any ideas?
I noticed too, that going up a slight hill, it felt as if it was labouring. ( as if a brake was catching).
Could this be the cause of the jolting, ( for want of a better word ).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Dominic.

How many miles on it? OEM shocks?

Sounds like you've got some blown shocks which is forcing the springs to make up the difference. The result is a horribly bouncy ride. As for it laboring uphill, tackle one problem at a time. Solve the bounce issue and then readdress any other problems. People looking to find problems with their cars often find them, whether they actually exist or not. ;)

Hi,
Took it to the mechanic today and took him for a drive and he said it seemed to be the shock absorber.
Back to the garage and we noticed the rear end of the LC was way, way down.
He investigated underneath it and found that the rear sensor bracket had corroded and broken.
So, he's making me a new one. Hopefully, that will be it!
Thanks again for all your help,
Cheers,
Dominic.

Hi again,
Reporting back!
Got my LC back. The mechanic said ( I probably won't be able to explain it as well as him ).
He said that the linkage to the sensor bracket had seized and caused the bracket ( that holds the sensor, I think ), to break. So he said in that case, there was virtually no suspension ( causing the bumpiness ) and the LC didn't know what height to put it to.
He freed up the linkage and welded the bracket together again.
So, thank you all again for your responses!
Dominic.

at 130k Miles -I would go ahead and flush the AHC fluid -very simple job with very good instructions on how in this forum.

I did mine (157k miles) yesterday -and the difference as most would say is night and day ;)

Yeah, I have heard before, that it makes a big difference.
Must do it.
Here's a pic ( not great quality ) of the small sensor bracket which was broken.
( Bottom left of picture ).
Cheers all!
