Was at U-Tech picking up some shackles for the bumper today. That place has some cool stuff. I looked for some heavy duty tow straps they were out. Should have looked for a snatch block I want one as well. Food for thought I was curious myself as I'm living through Mike for plans when I add an 80 to my garage.

I think it'll do just fine on the 80. I was wondering myself how it would do on an 80 so I thought I'd search for the expert's opinions. I wouldn't think twice about putting 8274 on anything. You can't argue with its speed and durability. You can do a real world test up winch hill in Sicily to see how it does. 
The last one on our for sale thread. I found a Warn 6000 on a bumper on Louisiana Sportsman's classifieds section. $200. I don't know if that's any good for y'all but I thought I'd share.
Don't think it will bolt right up to my bumper. The bumper that I have is made so that an 8274 just bolts up with no mods.
Good deal. I just hope someone that could use one sees it in time.

Well, while yall are getting good deals on 8274's my cheep @ss is buying harbor freight whinches and planning on saying a short prayer before each use. My welder is tied up with alot of work in texas right now but he says he belives he can have my bumper built before Alabama, said he would work saturdays if thats what it took.
There will be plenty 8274 willing to lend a hand bud.
I would have told you to look at the Max line of winches from Manafre. I don't know what you paid for the harbor freight but the Max winches have good price points and I did some research on them and didn't see anyone bashing them. Here you go. http://www.man-a-fre.com/pa2/t-maxwinches.htm Good price point on the 9000, $539 that would be plenty for your runner.
I got a 10K from harbor freight for 400, going to use it till it breaks and save up money in the meantime for a 12K warn since there is no kill like overkill.

Actually, some of the Cheap MileMarker are also relabeled T-max and the SAME company that makes the HARBOR FREIGHT ones in China...now the Hydraulic units are a different line however.
As far as a cheap winch goes, Smittybilt has one for $299 (8k LB and 2 years warranty) and I'd thought about putting it on my 80's rear receiver hitch...though I'd bet you its the same company too...thus the 2yrs, China, etc....probably doesn't matter what you get if its not WARN, RAMSEY, after that I think they're mostly the same with a few exceptions...SOME of the T-Max winches look good though...

Dunno...the wrecker companies swear by them...they winch every single day...all day...they can't be that bad...of course, the Military Humvees use them too...you'd better have a reliable running rig w/a good saginaw pump though! I'm the guinea pig for new stuff...buy me one and I'll test it in Sicily
A saginaw PS pump would suply enough volume to run a winch?
I saw LC engineering has one that will mount to my truck and supply 4gpm @1600 for their ram assist steering, but was figuring a Hydo winch would require a good bit more than even that.

No doubt you'd need a good one...and don't forget, like a PTO, it won't work if you're stalled (sinking...tide rolling in, etc..LOL), everything has its ups and downs...Landtank runs one...I'm personally going to try to make the 8274 fit on my 80 too. I think that the 8274 is under-rated. I think Larry's right, and it will pull the 80 fine. I just need to figure out how to mount it....I'm now thinking about putting the solenoid pack under the hood...Some trucks have kick @$$ power steering pumps and some suck...I think electrics have really come a long long way and the 8274 is the most proven unit of them all. Hydraulics have their own pros like: waterproof, no electrics...most professionals, house movers, etc. use nothing else...most cars/trucks don't have the flow and pressure for a big one though...you need pressure to get the power and flow to get line speed.
Anyways, this is one of the OLD debates that's been going on and on for ages...everything has it's ups and downs...in England they have a 7 hours non-stop winching competition...mostly Hydraulic of course...but honestly, do you plan on winching that long? NOt me. LOL. I also don't want to bust my pump. And I don't want to have to put another one on either. I am opting electric.

Mike is always right on with his facts, I'll add to that as the hydraulic mile marker winchs stress your ps pump especially a toyota pump even with the addition of a PS cooler won't be enough. You need a high pressure pump with a large resevoir for it to be sufficient. I asked a few guys years back running them how they performed and they said they were slow and a pain to mess with. This is 10 years ago and they may have improved the design by now. At least I would hope.

Nice...my all time favorite one was featured on the cover of SOR a few years ago...perhaps someone remembers it...it was featured crossing a wooden log bridge....olive green color with a PTO.
