When I saw this I was expecting something ghetto-rific like the build on pirate...

I hate to admit it but this thing is pretty cool. Cant imagin how you would transport a beast like this... ow where the CG would be... or the fuelmileage. But thake that to Holly Beach and you would be king for a day.

PS. Does it actualy float?

No worries about fuel mileage with the budget these guys have. They are actually in the business if you know what I mean. As for the floating, no it doesn't float on water. But it does float over the terrain where it is used.

OK. It's time for some real honesty for which I know I will get some guff. However, I need to get this out there and get some real help. It seems as though for as long as I can remember, I have coveted a Land Rover Defender 90 Soft Top. I love the look and they seem like very capable vehicles. My favorite is the latest model imported - a 1997. My problem is that I have always heard that they are not dependable and can be expensive to maintain. However, I can't get past the infatuation. I have no intention of getting rid of my FJ40 but every once in a while I go through this short period of time where I seriously think about getting one. I need some help/advice about this. Someone tell me something that will cure me of this once and for all. Thanks in advance!

Wow... I have many examples of what this reminds me of...none of which I can put here. ...I"ll email you. lol. However, if it were the right price, hell... I'd buy one (not what you wanted to hear).

Honestly, maybe check out a Rover forum. Ask the guy from the Musson event that Theriot knows that owns that old old Rover... maybe he knows.

Lastly, you can sell me your rig and see if you like the Rover... I may not sell it back, however! :D

...P.S. ... awesome pics today of that behemoth!

Actually, I'd think that everything below the folks riding is a fuel tank!!

Ok Armond, Let's hear the story behind this thing...anything. Any website??? I looked and couldn't find anythning.

...I'm sticking this in Chat... Awesome rig.

THere's one that frequents the baseball park in Youngsville and Broussard Armond. Buy one! If you need to get your mind off of it, let's go fishing. That usually helps me. Of course, last weekend, when I wasn't reeling in reds or hauling in crabs, I was driving my Cruiser all over the property for shi+'s and grins.

On another note, I took my LC to get inspected today. Hadn't done that yet since I bought it. I took it it to a place that I cannot name (PM me if you want) and this stoned looking dude came up, asked what I wanted, took my reg paper, license, insurance, went inside, got the sticker, put it on and that was it. I thought it was some kind of joke. Most places I have gone to act like they're freaking paranoid about doing inspections. They never blew the horn (watch it Armond) or anything!

The D90's are nice and was built on the heritage of the series 1, 2 and 3. It had most of the modern day conveniences which was appealing and built as a capable offroad rig. I almost bought one myself in 98. I was warned many times of their electrical issues and the expense to repair as were the discoveries built during that time. Also heard claims about weak axles. This is before they were bought out by Ford. The parts are not readlily avaliable and there is a small after market base but nothing like for the cruisers. The 98 model I was looking at buying was in the shop I worked at for electrical issues caused by going through water and I passed on the deal. The owner was putting it up for sale after it got out of the shop for 17K. I'm sure like anything they can be built with better drivetrain components and swaping out the wire harness with a better after market if you can pick them up for the right price. I knew folks that had the wagons with very little problems but still expensive to repair.

Good pictures bud, and looks like it was a great time. A special outing with the wife and family beats out the ramble anytime and I'm sure it made the boys day. ;)

X's 2- looks like you guys had fun.
Is that a new ball park?

Armond,

If you like something, and really want it, I say go for it. Life is too short to not be enjoyed. Personally, I'd never own one unless I lived in Africa where parts abound for them, and I couldn't get my hands on an HZJ80....

This about sums it up from me (from the LR forum):

Land Rover vs. Land Cruiser

Posted by Sage on October 04, 2000 at 16:44:48:
(This is sure to stir the pot)
Well, after 1.5 years of frusturating ownership of a 1993 LWB, I traded her in (plus a lot of cash) for a 1994 Land Cruiser with the factory installed locking front/rear differentials.
I really liked the LR, but the cost of ownership was staggering. I could not justify the maintenance $$ for a vehicle that needed some type of repair every 5,000-10,000 miles. I drive alot (sometimes off-road) and the possibility of being stranded 20 miles off road in the LR was a reality.
I have now owned the Cruiser for 6 months and put on 12,000 miles. Overall,my observations are as follows:
1) The Cruiser has amazing build quality/reliability versus the LR; there's no comparison.
2)With 10.5 inches of ground clearance (stock 275/70/16) and the locking differentials, the off-road prowess is almost as good with the LR.
3) The 212 HP 275 lbs/ft 6 is as powerful as the LR V8, but noiser; gas mileage is the same.
4) The interior of the Cruiser is bland and boring, and the radio sucks. However, ergonomically, the Cruiser is much better engineered.
5) The Cruiser is stiffer sprung, but has less body-roll. On road ride is comparable.
6) The heater/AC work much better in the Cruiser.
7)The seats in Cruiser (leather with lumbar support)are much more comfortable.

So yes, overall, I'm much happier with the Cruiser. It's a shame LR cannot figure out how to put together a reliable, well-built rig.
Hopefully Ford's ownership (capital investments) will improve LR quality, and I can consider another LR in the future.

well, I'm getting kind of anxious with my disco 97 too, is not the money or the failures themselves is the embarrasment that land rover is supposed to be a reliable and awesome car.

steering leaks
engine leaks
transmission leaks
transfer case noisy
dash peals
alternator, failed
loud and noisy drivetrain like an old piece of junk
2 door locks went bad
rear door rubs
ruber in all windows is cracking
control cruise works when it wants to
antifreezer reservoir cracked
sunroofs failed (both)
the service light comes up every 3 mos.
noise in driver door panel
uneven and jumpy idle

but for some reason I love it, is like a bad marriage, can't live with or with out it... may be I just need a 2001.
I'm I stupid or just passionate about them??????

Thanks to all who responded to my cry for help with the Land Rover infatuation. It seems as though your responses have helped me for now. One of my good friends put it to me like this - there are very few good British Engineers. You want engineering you go to Germany or Japan. That makes some sense. Also, Mike's response was filled with great detail and of course that was helpful. But it was his response about life being too short to not be enjoyed. That actually had the reverse affect on me. I thought about it and came to the conclusion that there were many things that would be enjoyable to me that I don't pursue. The reason for that is because while most of those would be enjoyable in the short term, they would be problematic in the long run. Much like the D-90 would be. Thanks for the support fellas!

Does this mean that you're going to try to fufill your dream of being in the adult movie industry??? ;)

Good luck bud!
