Well i thought these things weren't supposed to break!!!! It was a 3/4" Aurora Heim and it snapped right in the middle of the threaded shank. Is there a rule of thumb for how much thread should be threaded into a LCA, i had it about half way in to help get me a litlte castor, which must not have been enough due to the failure, i also talked to Aurora and they won't admit to a defective joint unlit they see it, Brad.

what's the strength rating of the heim joint?

I run 3/4 thread, 5/8 bore heims from QA-1 and have yet to break one, their top line is 45k# rated.

Yeah the one that broke was rated at 40k#, i think i'm going to switch to QA-1 after this, they're a little more money but it looks like some other stuff may have gotten tweaked because of the break, i hope Auoroa is going to stand behind that 40k# rating and pay for the damages, Brad.

How was it being used? Pics of the setup.

BTW, you typically want 3/4 of the threads in the bar...

Also, jam nut in place and strong? Were you hitting it on rocks?

Honestly I have no reason to argue their claim that they will not warranty a joint unless they see it. HTF are they supposed to know what you did with it???

A lower control arm hiem will break laying the full weight of a rig on the link, and will break at the point of threads in the arm.

Nothing is indestructable. Its not like they are lee dungarees.

Jam nut would be important too.

Yeah the jam nut was there and tight, what bugs me though is the trail wasn't that rough and i had just put those heims in, they were brand spankin new, if Aurora comes back and says that the heim is up their specs then it only leaves that i idn't have it threaded in to the LCA enough, a lesson learned, and for only $23.00 i can't be too mad, Thanks for all the input, Brad.

Mace - I don't have a digital camera to post pics but it's just your standard run of the mill 3-link, i also have no problem getting the joint to them on my dime i just wish it could be direct through me instead of through the distributor so i could hear first hand what they have to say, thats all, the heim doesn't have any rock rash on it from hitting rocks but the LCA has quite a bit, maybe they have an upgrade or something else to suggest for my application, Brad.

Did it break straight up and down or side to side?

Mace - It bent down to almost a 90* angle then snapped, Brad.

I would say that it did what it was supposed to. And that was not a failure then. If I had a heim bend 90* I would be impressed!!!

Not to doubt you, but you might look at design of the 4 link..
Find someone with a digital camera ;)

Here is a rough picture of Brad's setup, the control arm comes down then is angled back up a bit, in this picture you can see the arm with a piece of the old heim still stuck in it, a bit blurry though.
