Does anyone have a diagram that shows the location of all the breather hoses? I would like to bundle into one and run them to a high part of the engine bay while I await a snorkel solution for the FJ so I can bring them to roof height.

Thanks,
Shawn

you can have the dealer print them out

you have to have someone smart behind the counter.

I have mine for the rear of my lc. It didn't come from the factory but toyota did make them

IMO, roof height is not the best location....personally, t-ing into one common fitting at a high point on the engine firewall will be more than sufficient....

unless you REALLY think you're gonna be windshield deep in water....which I doubt ;)

Breathers: one on the rear axle housing, likely tied in with the brake t-fitting....one on the t-case....one on the tranny (and auto's expand/contract a LOT)...and one on the front diff

the 80-series has them extended to the frame rails, it's likely that the FJC is the same, so just extend them down the frame rails

I used a small fuel filter on the firewall...and loop the hose 2-3x prior to the filter too, just in case you actually roll the truck, it'll help trap fluid and prevent loss.

I used small ATV diaphrams on my axles/t-case on my offroad rig, but that's a poor idea for a daily-type truck....

Here is from the inside....

I had my Disco breathers up at the top of my snorkel and looped there. Definately my selection for insurance. :)

Thanks for the input.

okie dokie...you've got a challenge...

I want a pic of your FJC in a similar situation for the 'MUD covershot rotation :D

noice ;)

I'm just after the termination locations so I can go out and purchase the right amount of tubing to put something together. If I wasn't soooo lazy I'd get my butt up and go search for them in the garage but I'm waaaay to comfortable right now.

Thanks
Shawn

I'll get right on it after I do the extensions ;p

after you are done with the frt / rear diff and trans / xfer case breathers

maybe you would want to look at the diff lock actuator breathers (CDL if manual trans and rear diff lock)

should be a separate line from the transfer case / differential housing breathers to keep gear oil vapors from condensing in the electric bits..... the CDL actuator is joined to the tranny / xfer on the 80

after that you might want to look at those rubber bits on the starter.....

Thanks, I definately want to move any breather vents up as high as possible so now I need a list of all the one's that exist on the FJC and their termination(loop) locations.

Thanks again.

what I would do is wait for photoman to buy a FJ and then copy his work......

here are some links to his stuff - most of the pics no good anymore but I found one of the starter breathers-

breathers for the distributor,

starter & starter solenoid

also - here's a discussion of the dist vent system on a FJ40 (vacuum from the manifold, to the dist, and a breather from the dist to a small filter inside the cab)

just a couple afterthoughts before work

the difflock actuators on the 80 series vehicles are looking pretty nasty as the vehicles get 10 - 15 years old (symptoms ranging from taking longer to lock / unlock, all the way to actuator failure - replacement prices for just the actuator running a good bit more than $500)

if the FJC CDL actuator breather is tied into the tranny / xfer breather as it is on the 80's I would absolutely give it its own line...... likewise the actuator on the rear diff should have a separate line from the diff breather and both routed as high as possible

distributor - If you are going to play Captain Nemo and want to do something to the distributor - having slept on it Im thinking it would be better to slightly pressurize the distributor than to pull a slight vacuum as described in a previous post..... when it gets dunked if there is any leakage whatsoever we want to go from in to out not out to in...... im thinking a small 12v air pump simi.lar to an aquarium bubbler - mount it on the firewall, have it sucking in air from the snorkle and blowing to the distributor..... and terminate the exhaust line from the distributor above the high water line too (firewall or back in the snorkle?) there should be some holes on the distributor already -(tap into them? or epoxy nipples in?) need to have a filter on the suction of the pump.... thinking the dist might run better / cleaner / longer with cool air circulating thru it

starter -pretty cheap to replace compared to the other components but if you are gonna do a pressurized distributor why not pressurize the starter as well.... Its been a while since I had mine apart but I think air could circulate between the hose barb on the solenoid body and the hose barb on the starter body..... use a pump as described above and begin terminate hoses the same way.
