Brass Tags

I thought I understood the meaning of brass tags until now. I have a 45swb built in 65, but has a brass tag of 66. My title for that vehicle is for 1966. My understanding was that the tag was for the year the vehicle was imported when it was different than production year.......until I got a 45lwb with a brass tag of 66. Problem...title says 67. So, there goes my theory. Any extra explanation would help. I plan on running vin # next for production date to see if that clarifies anything.

My understanding is that the brass tag is document for when the vehicle was sold from the dealer. But I am not 100%

It is the year that the vehicle was sold and titled from the dealer.

I have a 65 fj40, the brass tag is 66, the title is 67.......go figure
