well i have a new master cylinder new brake pads all new wheel cylinders and mostly all new brake lines. before you tell me to put disks in trust me it is on the list this was just a temporary way to go. ok i noticed when i was trying to adjust the brakes that if i pumped it the wheel cylinders would open and not go down very easily. i took it to my parents and everything worked great then when i came home i hit the brakes hard to see what it had and they stayed on. i limped it in the garage and released the pressure. i went uptown today to put gas on it and the same thing happened, i got home and the brakes were smoking and i could get 30 mph out of it. luckily it is only a mile. is my master cylinder junk? i didn't put new springs in when i upgraded everything else could it be the springs don't have the umpf anymore? is there an adjustment on the master cylinder itself that i didn't see?

pedal adjusted properly (no booster on your rig correct??)

nope no booster and i was actually about to go outside and check the peddal adjustment and loosen it up. and obviously the brake peddle is hard as a rock.

Does your brake pedal return spring bring the pedal all the way back up to the stop?

If the pedal's coming all the way back up, go shorten up that rod a bit so the master can release the line pressure when you take your foot off the pedal.

I agree with what others are saying (that incorrect pushrod adjustment is likely to be the problem).

The piston in your brake master must be able to return all the way out to hit the circlip when your foot comes off the brake pedal. It should NOT be being held away from this position by the length of the pedal pushrod.

In fact, there should be clearance/freeplay present into the bargain.

ok i got lazy and took a nap, (my 5 month old daughter is teething so not much sleep) and i did adjust that rod to that it comes all the way up and clicks the brake light switch as the spring was sprung so i added another spring and lubed it, i am willing to bet you guys are 100 percent right on this one as i am gonna go outside after the old lady gets back from the store.

ok once again you guys are knowledgeable beyond your years. went outside and it happened to be parked on a hill and i left it in neutral and the more i started adjusting the more it rolled away. then for some reason it seems like i went to far and then it was like the master cylinder started bypassing or something cause there was nothing and i adjusted back a lil bit and i got it pretty close to perfect. took it out for a drive and i took care of the death dart finally and with your guyses help i took care of the brake issues.
