hello everyone. I just changed brake pads and rotors on my gx470 and after a few days they began to squeak a bit out of the right front. I just pulled off the caliper thinking that I didn’t put enough grease on the pad, cleaned everything and regreeased it. Now the squeak is better but the car is making a creaking sound whenever I brake. It literally sounds like an old wooden rocking chair. I am about out of patience and wondering if anyone else has an idea before I tear everything apart again

How many miles have you put on it since? Take a bit for the pads to break in, so to speak.

Did you remember to replace the shims when you put the new pads on? I believe their purpose is to reduce brake squeak. I forgot to put my rear driver’s side shim on, but it hasn’t started making any noise yet.

I have put about 1000 Miles on it. There were no shims when I pulled the brakes apart and none that came when I ordered the brakes from the dealer so I didn’t install any! How big of an issue is this? Is it unsafe to drive without them?

Edit: crazy deletes and re-adds - sorry.

No safety issues with not having the shims. As far as I know, they're only intended to help reduce squeaks. I'd pick some up to maybe help with the squeaks/creaking.View media item 78212
