Plan on doing my brakes sometime soon and have a few questions about brake parts. I bought the NAPA Adaptive Ones and while the fronts come with hardware - springs, clips, etc., I am not sure about the Insulator Kit from Toyota 0494560020 front and 0494660031 rear. Is this part needed for aftermarket pads or can I do away with it? FWIW, I have reman calipers for the front and rear.

I know the Toyota pads come with the shims separate from the pad (unlike aftermarket) and from what I've read the shims are included in the box with the pads.

Sorry for the seemingly dumb question, this truck is still relatively new to me and I want to start doing more DYI work on it, I have a mechanic friend who is willing to help.

I don't know about the aftermarket brake parts because I went with OEM. With OEM, the shims are separate from the pads and not in the box with the pads for an '04. You can get a good idea of OEM parts from this site:

As you start your DYI work, you'll probably have fewer questions and issues if you go with Toyota parts. As you gain experience with the truck, you'll get a better feel for what can be aftermarket instead of OEM.
