Hello,

I am having a frustrating time hunting down the flex lines for my truck. Its a 82 BJ42 and here's the situation:

Monte Carlo rear calipers.
Stock front disks WITHOUT dust sheild.
All stock brakeline mounts removed except for on the axles.

So, I am trying to spec some flex lines but every store I enter wont give me the time of day without me them the year and model of vehicle the lines I want are from. They dont stock and lines so I cant measure them to see if anything will fit. I need to have flex lines from the rear calipers to the hardline along the rear axle because when I designed the caliper mounts I screwed up the angle and they need to be unbolted and slightly rotated to be bled. The stock front lines going from axle to knuckles wont fit because of the lack of dust sheild. So....I need to spec out all the flex lines but I was wondering if anybody knows some specific vehicle models with flex line lengths that are suitable. I am thinking about using the monte carlo flex lines for the rear but they are a little short (9" or 10"). Any help would be appreciated.

Oh, and all the hardlines will be made after flexlines are installed.

The axle to caliper ones were WAY to short so I used two of the "frame to axle" ones when I got rid of the dust plates on my front discs. Stock length. I later replaced them (30 years old rubber is a bit iffy) with custom braided stainless from a local place that will actually make them for ya. I'm guessing they are just shy of 19" each. I tack welded a solid line to flex line mounting bracket to the axle tube.

From the Wiki........any part store should cross the number.

Brakes

Brakes/Steering rear disc brake hoses - NAPA 38149 or Raybestos BH38149
22-1/2" long frame-to-axle brake hose for SOA - NAPA 38009
front axle outer hoses (skips backing plate) - NAPA 38881 (longer) or 38878 (shorter)

Tankota, why couldn't you just use the stock hard-to-flex line mounts that are on the front axle already. I do have to weld on some of these mounts for the rear adapter.

mooker82, thanks for the numbers. Sorry, but I don't know the wiki you speak of.

One more question: How does Napa measure the length of their flex lines? They must measure from outside end of fitting to outside end of fitting because the lengths quoted on napaonline.com are longer then the lines I measured...anybody know for certain?

quick question and i keep trying to get out to my shop to answer my own question but I keep pondering.... can the rear stock line (frame to axle) be used on the front since it is longer?? I am sure they probably have the same fittings but I cant remember.... Thanks - also I saw while searching that some companies are making one brakeline and selling it for either the front or rear so that makes me think its doable but :meh:
