Can anyone school me on the CORRECT way to bend brake lines?
Ive got the little bending apparatus and a flaring kit and I F'd around with it today, but where I THOUGHT the bend was gonna be made, it WASN'T.
Its the crappy HF unit, but if I have a mark on the tubing, and there are "0" marks on the bender, where do you set the mark?

Im confused.

I ended up breaking one of my lines, so I took some scrap lines that were on the 40 axles to learn on. Its good Im doing this NOW before I have to plum everything.

Any help!

Keith

BTW, thanks to Krokar Dan who let me pull the "T" piece off of one of his 60's out in his yard. That was a HUGE help to me brother!

Your bender should have a bend radius measurement like 9/16 or something. you will have to allow for that radius there should be @ least 2 marks one for bending left and one for right (I always bend to the left)
Mark you tube where you want it to end and line that mark with the appropriate mark. remember the bend is going to take tubing length. Dont forget to debur.

Bending line is a PITA. I have 4 benders, one HF unit, one no-name but looks nice, one mystery brand old and rusty that my grandfather had. Then I have a pack of the door-spring looking benders.

Between them all, I can usually screw it up royally at least 3 times before I give up and bend it by hand till it fits.

Yes, mine does have those marks. So I make the mark on the tube which has been where I want the ANGLE center line to be.
A little more clarification on where the mark needs to line up????
Im not seeing it.

Thanks Ken!

Roger on the debur. I have that little de bur thing thing on my cutter.

Im prolly late , but yes where you want the center line of the bend mark that and line that up with the Mark on the bender ( use the left bend mark Its gonna be the most right mark on the roll support)

Kinda hard to explain.

Okay...sort of.
So there is ONE arm that has the radius to physically MAKE the bend, and the second arm is essentially is the force that is wrapping the tubing around, right...
So, the mark on the "force" arm is the one you would line the mark up on?

Yes, the mark on the force arm. But who knows when you only buy the finest Chinese $H!T. ;)

BTW what size you bending? I will be coming to Reno soon and I have a couple roller benders 1/4 3/8 1/2
you could borrow.

You know us 60 folks...one step up from the mini truck guys!!!!
Its some pretty small stuff Im bending. 1/4 in O.D. at the most.
Its the stock cruiser brake line, so probably some weird dimension.

Thanks for not forgetting that and still busting my balls.

Ill hopefully get the outer brake line brackets SET Sat. if I dont get called in, so then I can finally get the housing painted and re assembled this weekend.
Got the diff cover halfed, need to do something around the fill plug, get that BIEOTCH welded in too with some drain holes.

Little odds and ends.
