I have read through quite a bit of the threads on Brake Power Booster issues. I have a 78 FJ40, it has the dual diaphram booster. It looks like this booster can neither be replaced new or rebuilt anymore.

I see alot of threads on using a 80's model mini truck booster from a junkyard.

Any particular year work the best?
Does it bolt right up or do you need to make modifications upon installing?

I have also seen threads stating you can buy a "Taco" from auto parts store and install. I dont know what this is and so far neither do the auto stores? Can someone tell me what exactly this is

I also want to say thanks to everyone here in these forums, thanks to you guys i have just completed my first frame off restoration, the only issue i have left is this brake booster. Without this site i am not sure i would have made it.

Thanks again for all of the help

You don't know what a taco is??

Where ARE you?

I think Taco stands for Tacoma, a toyota truck model

You can still get a rebuilt original from http://www.marksoffroad.net.

I've got one from an early '80s 2wd truck that works, and a slightly larger one from a '91 4-runner that's a bit big, but mostly fits.

Taco = Tacoma in this context.
