Brake Fluid Level/Uneven Rotor Wear on Rear Brakes

my brake light came on a week or so ago. fluid looked a little low. i figured the pads were just worn enough to lower the level in the master.

i bought new pads yesterday (hard to believe pads from the dealer are cheaper than pads from schucks/kragen).

jacked it all up and all the pads look fine, no sign of fluid leaking anywhere. only odd thing is the rear drivers rotor is more worn on the inside than the outside. is this a bad caliper or just stuck slide pin?

still doesn't explain why the brake fluid level has gone down enough to trigger the light.

should i replace both rear rotors? or just the one that is unevenly worn?
 
I'd think it indicates that your caliper may need some work. If you replace one you should do both. Doing the rear rotors is only a few minute job.

I never add brake fluid. When it's low in my truck it means I need to swap pads. Lood around though, are the lines wet? They may be seeping etc so be carefull and don't ignore it.
 
I can't find any signs of fluid at any caliper or the master. Maybe the piston on the inner side of the worn rotor is out enough to account for the fluid loss.

Junk, I'm confused, are you saying you never flush the fluid or just that you never top it off as it gets low? :confused:
 
turbo - That I never top it off if it gets low. In my truck the only time I see it low the pads need changing.
 
You said that the rear ROTOR is more worn on the inside. I have seen brand new rotors come out of the box that way. Rotors wear at a much slower rate than pads do. If the PADS in that caliper are worn evenly then everything is fine. It sounds like you may have a problem elsewhere. Get under the truck and have someone repeatedly pump the brake pedal, easier to find a leak that way sometimes. Also, check the brake pedal and firewall/carpet area above the brake pedal for fluid or dampness. If the seal in the master cyl. goes it will show up at those places as well as in the vacuum line from the power booster.
