Well I'm putting some good km's on the 70 series again and a few little things have popped up but this one has become increasingly irritating, it started off like a slight hiss and now it's fairly loud... Still have good braking performance, but I would assume my booster is on it's last legs...

Anyone done a rebuild or can offer any advice on the subject? If it wasn't getting to be so loud I wouldn't even bother messing with it...

Cheers
Eric

bump...

Basically it only whines or squeals when the peddle is about half way depressed....

Anyone?

It doesnt look that complicated to rebuild, but you might find a used one for peanuts. They dont play up very often.
You might even find its the same as a north american FJ60

Does your vacuum hose have a good seal?
It has an o ring on the booster end that is supposed to be covered in lithium grease.

Thanks for the reply rosco... Would I have to take the unit apart to apply the lituim grease?

When I was looking at the other day, the bellow on the brake pedal looks to have foam inside of it this is where the sounds seems to come from. I was thinking the foam maybe in thre to muffle any noise like this when braking and maybe it's deteriorated over time?

It does kind of seem like it's just a seal that could use some lubrication, because the noise fades and comes back from day to day and I have yet to experience any loss in braking performance....

I just want to be sure it isn't something stupid before I try and source a used unit!

Cheers!

My mistake ,there is no hose with an oring that needs greasing.I must have drifted into another section of the manual:crazyeyes:
But there is still the vacuum hose that fits over the tube into the booster.I would check that for leakage as a preliminary measure

There is a piece of foam in there and 2 pieces of felt inside a rubber boot, maybe that what you can see.
They probably stop something from rattling around.
I would have a go at fixing it,but have a used one lined up just in case.
