Can any of you:banana::banana::banana::wrench: give me a heads up on a mod I am considering for my fj40.
The existing components are of a suspicious heritage and need to be at least rebuilt.
This seems an opportune time to upgrade to more modern compact parts that would also allow for the installation of a cold air inlet system like the Air Raid design, this is just not practical with the brake booster/master cylinder protruding 16" into the engine compartment. (obstructing the view of my new TBI system).:flipoff2:
A little preliminary research shows that there are several vehicles that have some of the attributes that I need to make this conversion, but Toyota parts would be preferred naturally.;)
My fj40 is the first Toyota I have had any exposure to so I have no idea what is available, the Dealer was not able to offer any help.
To provide a clear pathway to the proposed filter location the brake system should not extend past 9" into the engine compartment.
The stock air cleaner could be made to work, but it appears to be more restrictive than the one used on the Chevy engine.:hhmm:
hears hopping for some feedback.

I don't know of any that are that small especially since you are running a booster with it. I do have one on my 4runner that you are welcome to but I don't know how much of an upgrade that would be. Probably smaller, but not by much I would imagine.
I am looking at my Speedway catalog now and there is a 3 1/2" long master cylinder but it is not for powered brakes. The thinnest booster I could find is 5" but that only allows for a 4" master cylinder.

Mini truck booster with a LC disc brake (76 and later) master or some use other models for the 4 wheel discs.. I did this with my 75, just don't use the 75 master as it is for drums on 4 corners..

Thanks for the info, I am thinking that to make the effort worth while the combination must not be longer than 9", this will allow a straight shot at the rear portion of the left fender well where there is access to cooler air through the louvered side vent.
Dave @ Sam Jennings, is also checking his sources for availability.
Meanwhile its back to the wrecking yard to check out the Mini Trucks.
Your response to my post is much appreciated.
