1999 LX 470 with 279,000 miles. Owned it since new and she still runs great. Keep up with all the maintenance. Recently had new brake lines and brakes put on and since then the petals been a little mushy and recently it’s been going to the floor and it threw an accumulator code. The mechanic who did the brake work said he’s never worked with the system with an accumulator.

So couple questions I’ve read on here that bleeding the brakes is a little different than most could he have bled the brakes wrong?

Or would that not have thrown an accumulator code even if brakes were bled wrong? If it is the accumulator I see them on eBay you can buy the accumulator alone or with a pump. Any suggestions?

if the accumulator goes bad, it's won't build enough pressure to stop the truck without the use of e brake (both calipers and drum system). I can see a bad bleed may cause this but the pressure should still be high enough to stop the heavy truck. My booster went bad at my at 200k, glad it happened at work parking lot and not with family. I live in hilly area.

I got the replacement part from cruiserparts.com he may not have them in stock so lead time would be added to get from west cost to east coast and back to west coast as in my case. http://www.cruiserparts.com/

The brake master cylinder system is comprised of 3 parts, the hydraulic part, the booster and the electronic ABS control. OEM replacement for the ENTIRE system is close to 3k part alone. I rebuilt the master cylinder kit while I was in there, $65 from dealership. I actually did the rebuild kit before spending the $1100 for the booster. Twice the work but could have saved thousand bucks was worth a try.

is it possible the mechanic not having experience with toyota trucks with accumulators caused the issue?? Seems fishy happens right after work to it and I'd be taking it back to them.

That’s exactly like I was thinking. You guys are gonna laugh at me but it’s a menonite garage. He fixes my cars good but I think this one stumped him. He’s never heard of an accumulator. I didn’t really know the brakes were this different or complicated or maybe I would have taken it elsewhere.

Seriously, not many are aware about this expensive brake pump. I pulled a pump of a 02 Montero (not sport) and the junk yard staff wondered what it was!

I’m checking out ebay. $200 and change for new accumulator. I guess since that’s the code it threw I’ll start there
